Question about Cameras

I am having an issue getting a clear picture with the Panasonic WV-CP254 using the Panasonic WV-LA2R8C3B Lens, 1/3``, AI, F1.3, 2.8mm Super WA. This is a new install and I followed the instructions for set up. Picture is blurry and will not focus.

Hello! You you cannot use the camera with a vcr. This camera needs vertical drive sync impulses from a dedicated monitor. The video signal, the vertical sync and the video signal are sharing the same coax cable.

I want to buy a Panasonic AG-AF101 but need it end December. Do you know if it will be available from that time? What lens do you recommend to get the shallow DOF (lens price max US dollars 800. Thanks...

The camera is supposed to be released in December, but realistically it may be delayed as is commonly the case with new products. If you HAVE to have it by the end of December then I would strongly suggest having a backup plan with another camera in case the release is delayed.

As for your lens question: if you are limited to $800 on the lens, then why are you even considering the AF101? Lenses are more important than the camera itself (within reason).
You might consider getting a GH2 and a complete lens set instead of the AF101.
However, you should be able to get a couple good lenses for that price range.

You didn't specify what type of shooting you need to do so it is hard to advise you on the lens, but I will assume you have standard shooting requirements.
Firstly, I would recommend an m4/3 to Nikon adapter and get all Nikon lenses. This will give you the most selection and the best price and excellent glass quality.
The first lens I would get would be a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AI-S, which can be had for under $500. That will give you a 100mm (in 35mm terms) field of view. It is an excellent lens and f/1.2 will give you very shallow depth of field. I would then spend the remaining money on the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens which will give you a good normal view (equivalent to a 40mm lens in 35mm terms).

Alternately, you can obtain a good used 50mm f/1.4 Nikkor for under $200. It is also an excellent lens and still gives a very shallow DOF. You could then spend the other $300 on another lens, like a wider lens or a 105mm f/2.5 Nikkor for longer shots.
I use my f/1.4 Nikkor 50mm on my m4/3 GH1 90% of the time, but your shooting style will determine what you need. You DO NOT want a zoom lens though, as that will not give you near the quality. Be sure also to only consider manual focus only lenses (other than the Panasonic 20mm). The focus on those is MUCH MUCH better for video work. The manual focus Nikkors include the non-AI, AI, and AI-S lens lines.

Hi I would like know how can i zoom in to get

If you are downloading the Video from a Panasonic DVR then you should have the option to zoon in from the player. This option onexists on some of the cameras.

If you are recornding analogue in 2 cif then you will loose detail in the picture when trying to aoom in. If you are recording in 4 cif then you will still loose some sdetail if you have the ability to zoom in with the Panasonic viewer software.

This software download is available right from the Panasonic DVR through the user GUI

I'VE BEEN GIVEN A PANASONIC WV-BL-204 VIDEO SURVALENCE CAMERA NOT SURE IF IT HOOKS TO A VCR DOES ANYONE HAVE A PICTURE OF HOW IT HOOKS UP

Hi, yes, you  can hook this camera up to a VCR. You need a BNC to RCA adaptor and a RCA cable. You can purchase these items at Radio Shack. Just connect the VIDEO OUT, which is a BNC connector to your yellow VIDEO IN RCA jack on the VCR. If you dont see video, then you might have to switch the 1st dip switch to enable the iris on the lens to open and let light through. Here is the manual:

Are you getting anything from the camera at all? Put a meter at the camera end and make sure your getting 24 volts at the cam. If you don't have 24 volts at the camera, check the fuse for your power supply, you may have accidentally crossed your wires.

Sounds like the iris is staying open.
You need to switch the bottom dip switch the other way

The switches are, from top to bottom:

  1. Sync selection switch (LL/INT)
  2. Electronic Light Control/Automatic Light Control selection switch (ELC/ALC)
  3. Detail level selection switch (SOFT/SHARP)
  4. Back light compensation on/off switch (BLC on/off)
  5. Lens selection switch (VIDEO/DC)

Bronica SQ-Ai shutter problem

There could be a number of issues with this problem. Make sure the contacts at the rear of the lens and those on the body that connect with those on the lens are clean and straight. If so, the problem may be in the shutter within the lens. There is a magnet inside the shutter that sometimes becomes contaminated and fails to hold the shutter blades open for the selected shutter speed. The face of the magnet may need to be cleaned. There are also timing switches that sometimes go bad or need adjusting. These internal problems need to be taken care of by a competent technician since the lens needs to be completely disassembled. I have also seen these shutters go bad and need to be replaced. Let's hope that's not the problem because it will be difficult to get a new shutter for the lens--but not imposible. God luck.
