I bought a ps3 off ebay, but when I turned it on it won't play and says demo mode 3.56. Please tell me this is fixable.

if u have a ps3, then all i can tell u is that mine does it with mercenaries2, and i dont think its realy fixable unless u bu a new system

the blu-ray laser died. It is hard to fix yourself without any knowledge of electronics. But the part is about $80 on ebay and usually ships from china/japan so it will take about a month to get to you.

When the 3.55 downgrade was released, The 3.41 you downgraded to registers as 3,56 on your PS3. Only way to get out of it is to downgrade to something lower than 3.41 & then update to a original 3.41, or wait until sony release's a update higher than 3,56 and the 3.60 is out so you should be able to get that and be back on track.

This is a very common problem.

It probably needs a new laser because the old one is "burnt out". It's a really common problem with them.

You could replace the laser or the entire Bluray drive.


You can buy these online at may online stores or eBay.

Sony will repair it for a whopping $150 USD plus shipping, or you can get a third party repair place to do it for probably $80-$120.

From everything I have been able to find, a unit that has demo mode on it, is never supposed to be used for retail consumption. Those modes are only for actual demo models in stores. I reviewed alot of information trying to find this out, but it appears that there is no way around this.

than enter 1 of these following codes depending on your version number


1.5x code: 5202
1.6x code: 7568
1.7x code: 0506
1.8x code: 7712 or 7259

and the ps3 will be unlocked from demo mode.
but be aware that this will only be for a couple of minutes.
so make sure you have the latest firmware the not demo one but the ordinary from the playstation site on a removable storage media
something like a memory stick or flash drive

so you can update immediately after unlocking you ps3! only this way you can completely unlock your system!!
