Me again I did get the safe mode on this time but I still only have one box w/ old user name and password. I did not have extra boxes appear for guest/administrator. When it opened it gave me a option for safe mode, safe mode w/networking, and safe mode w/ command prompt along with other options. I chose Safe Mode and enter than it gave me the operating system to start which is Microsoft Windows XP Professional, I entered and it ran through a program and safe mode appeared on the bottom of my screen and my log on windows appeared but not with the choices, just one User Name box and password.

O.k. Then what this person did is set up an administrator password during the XP install. This overrides the key administrator account in safe mode and only allows his/her account to exist as the administrator. The computer is still good and usable, unfortunately, without the password the operating system is not. You will have to wipe the hard drive, reformat (NTFS), and reinstall the operating system. Sorry, no easy way out on this one.

Hi,

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Try downloading Ophcrack.

To use it, download it and then burn the .iso file to a blank cd.

Then, boot the computer with the cd is inserted and choose "boot from cd".

Follow the on screen instructions as the computer will boot up and then crack your password.

What to do ,can't log on password required

You can salvage your old user account by logging on as the "Administrator" user. Once you're logged in as the admin, you can reset your old user password. The Administrator user (by default) is similar to a "superuser" and has the highest access level to reset any user password.
If you don't know what your Administrator password is, you can reset that by rebooting into Safe Mode.
The best option here is to reset your account password. You can do this using either 1 of the 2 methods suggested by Microsoft Knowledge Base article #321305. In my opinion, the second method described on this page is most likely the easiest route: Reboot Windows in Safe Mode. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK: control userpasswords2 Click the user account that you forgot the password for, and then click Reset Password. Type a new password in both the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and then click OK.
Good luck!
Side note: To access Safe Mode, Click Start -> Shutdown (or Turn Off), and choose 'Restart'. Once the computer restarts, press F8 repeatedly on the keyboard until a Boot Menu appear (this *must* be done before the Windows boot screen appears). Finally, choose to boot Windows in Safe Mode and press Enter on the keyboard.

You can reset a lost or "forgot Windows password" with 4 methods below:
1. Another valid administrator account which can normally log on.
2. A password reset disk or a repair disc, which is created in advance ( before you lost password ).
3. Third-party software to create a bootable password reset CD/DVD or USB, like "Windows Password Breaker".
4. Re-install. Will lose data.

I'M AT A WHITE SCREEN ON MY LAPTOP AND I CAN'T GET IN. i FORGOT MY ADMINISTRATIVE PASSWORD AND MY SYSTEM PASSWORD

Shut the laptop down now push the power button and very very quick after that keep on tapping the F8 key on the keyboard.(Follow thses steps if the OS is Vista or Win 7) U will see Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking then u will see Safe Mode with Command Prompt highlight that with the arrow keys press enter. U will see a Black Sreen then put the flowing command there " net user administrator /active " then press enter. Reboot the laptop u will see a new user account named administarator click on it then on start type in user u will see user above click on it all the user will be there click on ur old user account. There u will have option to change or remove the login password do that and then restart us laptop. U should be able to login now. When u come to the desktop click on start type in CMD above CMD will come right click on it then run as admin. in the black box type in " net user administrator /active: no " restart the laptop again issue resolved.
If the OS is XP restart the laptop in Safe Mode using the F8 key u will see a new account there the follow the steps Start - Control Panel - User Account - Click on the Old User account - then create a password this will remove the old password and put in a new password.

ADMINISTRATOR account disabled

Boot your computer into Safe Mode. It sometimes varies, but the typical way on most WinXP

based machines is to strike the F8 key during P.O.S.T. Once the drivers load you need to

access the Command Prompt. START / ALL PROGRAMS / ACCESSORIES / COMMAND

PROMPT. A new window will appear.

At command prompt, type "control userpasswords2" and press Enter to open the Windows 2000-style User Accounts application.

On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name and password for the account you want to be
logged on each time you start your computer.

IBM Thinkpad

When you first start the machine, start pressing F8. It should go into safe mode. Safe mode looks different than the regular Windows mode, and there will be a screen with user account boxes, just like when you logged off in Windows. One box will have administrator, another will have whoever had the computer before, and there may be another with guest. Click on the administrator box, then open user accounts from the control panel. Then you can open the user account with the password and clear it. If you still can't get to safe mode let me know and we'll try a forceful way.
