My laptop says no bootable device insert disk what is wrong?

NO BOOTABLE DEVICE When the PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either the hard disk or floppy drive it gives an error message "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and press any key" First thing, check to see if the is a floppy disk in the floppy drive, if so removes this disk. If there was no disk in the floppy drive then it may be a hard disk problem.
Check the BIOS to see if the hard disk is detected, if not open the case and re-seat the data cable on the hard drive and also where it connects to the motherboard disk controller.
If it still gives this error message and the BIOS does not detect this hard drive, then the hard drive is probably faulty.
A further check on the hard drive, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port, if this computer does not detect it as an external storage device then the hard drive is faulty.
To get the computer operating again, install a new hard drive in your computer and then install Windows on this hard drive plus the computer's device drivers and your programs.

Disk boot failure insert system disk

First if your computer has a floppy drive, check to a floppy drive does not have a floppy disk in this drive.
Your computer cannot find the hard disk to boot up.
Go to your BIOS to see if the BIOS detects the hard disk, if not remove the hard disk and re-connect it again and see if it boots up.
If it still does not boot up then most likely the hard drive has failed.
To get the computer working again, install a new hard drive, install Windows and the computer's device drivers and your programs.

The PC cannot see a boot file/disk on either the hard disk or floppy drive.

Floppy is stuck in slot

The most comprehensive information that I have found is located at Computerhope.com
Floppy diskette stuck in floppy drive
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000828.htm
If the above does not work then you will need to replace the floppy drive and take apart the old floppy drive to remove the disk.

I have a HP 8595c computer. I put a DVD in and it froze. I restarted the computer and now it won't boot up proberly. I get this message. "Non-System disk or disk error Replace and strike any key...

Non-System Disk or Disk Error results when the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) cannot find the boot sector or the master boot record is missing or damaged; i.e. the device does not have bootable media. The BIOS searches drives in the order usually specified in the CMOS Setup. This order is often, but not always, A: (floppy drive), C: (first partition on the hard disk)… The error will occur during startup if the CMOS is set so the BIOS seeks the floppy drive first and a non-bootable (or blank) floppy is in (was left in) the floppy drive. Other causes include:

No bootable partition on a hard disk drive
  • A defective hard disk drive
  • The CMOS drive settings (parameters) are not correct for the boot device
  • Defective floppy
  • Defective floppy drive
  • A virus

On my Sony MVC-FD88 I had listed this as a similar problem on FixYa.com and then explored it further. I'm very technical so I replaced the internal floppy disk drive myself, so wanted to post my findings here.

I bought the internal floppy disk drive (very hard part to find) at partstore.com

It is not an easy procedure if you have not done this type of work before. There are several online places that will replace the floppy disk drive for you.

They are very delicate, any jar to the camera can harm them, as well as, labels on disks loose or a misaligned disk cover on the floppy disk. Mine now works perfectly. Generally, once they jam, getting the floppy disk out often destroys the floppy disk drive heads inside the camera. These are great cameras. I am always impressed by mine, it is a definite keeper. From what I've found the electronics of the camera are quite reliable and I only need to take a couple of pictures at a time, so a memory chip type camera is of no real value to me.

Windows Setup cant find hard disk ?????????????

Does the BIOS on your system see the drive and show it's model information? Is this the only drive on the system? If the answer is yes for both, then you can download free utilities from the web to wipe the drive clean. This will result in the loss of all existing data on your drive. You can search for "Wipe Disk" and will get several hits for free software. Once you have cleaned the drive, try instlling XP. If the BIOS does not see your drive, the XP can't see it. You may want to try other SATA ports on your motherboard, or try changing the IDE configuration in the BIOS. Let me know if this works.
