Question about PC Desktops

5 Answers

I've got a Acer Aspire 5612ZWLMi with Vista Home Premium, supplied with 1GB DDR2 RAM. I upgraded to 2GB RAM (1 module) last year with no problems. I have just bought another 2GB module to increase up to it's 4GB max. The problem is with both memory modules in place together it does not boot up, no post just black screen. Either module works alone in either slot, just not together. Any suggestions please? Regards Steve

I forgotten that there was one 2B already in and I actually bought a matched pair of 2GB DDR2, and no combination worked together but each module worked in either slot.

Am I correct in trying to put 4GB in anyway?

    Another suggestion please?

    Regards Steve

Hello steveosiliff,

Do you have windows vista with 32bit or 64bit?

If you have 32bit your computer wont boot up with 4gbs.
I suggest you to take back the second stick of 2GBs and ask them to change it to a 1GB stick.

Check to see that the new memory chip is the same frequency as the old, Ie... PC4200, PC5300. I've also had some chips interfer with each other if they are not the same make of chip.

Are you aware that windows 32bit only supports up to 3gb of ram, i will have to check your laptop specs and check something.

    RAM: DDR2-533MHz

    what frequency did you get?

  • Ekse Jul 22, 2008

must be a compatibility issue between the two modules what do the labels say?

  • Ekse Jul 22, 2008

your computer should start up with 4gb of ram on 32bit os, just like mine, but the rest of the memory 3gb and up wont show up and wont be useable to your programs or windows without upgradeing to a 64bit operateing system.

I will check if your motherboard supports 4 gigs, in the meanwhile try pulling and oputting back modules, ensure RAM is both of same kind.

Yes, it supports 4 Gb, RAM must be
DDR II SDRAM - 533 MHz, if RAM is correct, try replacing a couple of times, if does not work, either RAM is faulty, or the two modules don't work together for some reason.

EMachine W3507, will not boot after adding 2GB of memory. (2x 1GB; one in each slot). It will boot with one stick, but only if the original 512MG is in slot 1. The 512MB is not recognized.

Where they purchased as a working pair some motherboards will only accept working pairs>?
Make sure RAM modules are of same brand and type try one ram module at a time in the working slot closest the cpu if both work individually they are not a working pair

Can you upgrade this pc to vindow vista or window7

Hello

Yes, this computer's Operating system can definitely be upgraded to either windows vista, or Windows7. Firstly you wil need to remember that you will have to upgrade the ram module to at leas 1GB. 2GB being the maximum for this computer.

Also, i would rather load the 32bit version of the operating system than the 64bit.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further assistance.

Kind regards
Andrea

I want to upgrade my PC to 4GB of RAM. Does the Acer Aspire X1301 REQUIRE you to use 2 2GB RAMs, or can I use 1 4GB?

you shouldnt have any problem upgrading with the 4 gig module. just make sure that you know whether it is ddr or ddr2 before you go and buy it. just to make sure you may want to take it with you when you make your purchase. Hope that helps!

Hi there. I have an HP a6500f. Came pre-loaded with 4GB RAM. Worked fine for a year then started freezing/restarting/BSOD randomly. Ran memory diagnostics and got a BIOME-1 error with both sticks, but...

Try manually setting the ram timings in bios but....

i would think its a motherboard issue too by the sounds of it. find one that has a similar specification and fit it, I will suggest one if you need me to, just give me a list of the hardware you have installed on this current machine

Trouble after RAM upgrade

sounds more like a compatibility issue with the new ram. Take it or send it back and get a different brand. Or better yet was it running bad to begin with, before them ram upgrade? If so you prolly loaded down with adware and spyware, possibly even a virus. I would suggest doing some good maintenance if thats the case.

the 1gb memory modules need to be low-density ie chips on both sides. the motherboard can only recognise 512mb on each side of the memory module.
