Oh sorry I'm new to this blog I thought it would post under the problem about the Hitachi 50GX10B that keeps shutting itself off. I finally found my TV guy and he thinks its the "convergence" thing. It sets on the right hand side of the set (if you are looking at the back of it) and its a silver box with a board attached to it. He's really awsome and is charging me $200.00 to have it replaced. So you think that was a fair price? The picture on this Hitachi is still very very good so I would actually hate to go out and purchase an 50' LCD. But this part has went out before - is this a common problem with that model? I purchased it about 2001 for $850 - new from I think Circuit City.

Yes 200.00 is a fair price to replace the convergence ICs. It could verywell be that if your picture is out of alignment as a bad set of ICs will distort the picture and will cause the set to shut down. If the picture isnt out of alignment, then It wont be the convergence ICs that are shutting the set down. If you need more assistance please let me know.

Should the cooling fan stay on constantly?

No.

If the cooling fan stays on permanently when driving it means that your engine is overheating - and you would notice the heat!

Check your coolant level though.

It's probably the (faulty) switch that kicks in when the engine gets to a certain temperature .. like when idling along in heavy traffic .. and not switching off when the temperature drops.

An easy fix, assuming all is okay with your coolant system/cylinder head.

Give a mobile mechanic a call. These guys are good and cheaper than a workshop call out.

What does it mean when the oil light in the 1995 Cadillac Sedandeville 4.9 comes on

It can mean one of two things. Either your oil level is too low, meaning more than 1 quart, or your pressure is too low. The first thing to do is check the oil level in the engine and top it up. If the light goes out after this then everything is okay. If the light stays on you should get the oil pressure checked with a mechanical guage to get an accurate reading.

Get this done as soon as possible. Manufacturers don't give you much room with these lights, when they come on you are very close to the engine meltdown point. Hope this helps.

My Continental Portable Air Conditioner only blows partially cool air and will not cool my house. I am I just expecting too much? It seems like it needs freon or something like that.

Unless your home is less than 400 square feet, total. You are expecting to much. As the maximum cooling output is only 9800 Btu's These unit's despite being portable, they are only considered as room air conditioners, because of the low Btu output. Any more than 400 and maybe 450 square, it's a struggle for the unit to cool any more than that. It just simply can not do it. Freon ( which has been banded by the EPA) wouldn't help at all.

The best option for you, is to place the unit in a room you spend most of your time in and close the doors to that room, so that it will stay really cool and the AC unit won't struggle.

I'm really sorry. I wish I had better news for you.

I connected my brand new one Danby DPAC 7099 unit, but is not cooling the room. It only goes to 1 degree less than the actual temperature of the room and stays there forever. Is there something I should...

Your question "Should I wait before starting the unit, after bringing it from the store?" may be the answer to the problem. If the unit was turned on it's side or back when you brought it home in your car? Then yes. that is the problem. When AC Units, Dehumidifiers, etc are turned on their side or back, the refrigerant gas and the lubricating oil runs out of the compressor. It should not be operated, unit it's been setting upright for 6 to 8 hours. This allows all the fluids to run back into place.

If the above is the case. Turn the unit Off and unplug it for at least 6 hours. Hopefully, all the fluids will return to where they are supposed to be.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

The TV just shut off on its own. Why did it act this way?

The TV will shut off when it's drawing more power than it can handle. It will also turn off if a sleep timer is set in the settings menu, or if it's overheating. If you have a lot of devices hooked up to the TV, I would suggest turning off or unplugging anything which isn't in use. Also if your TV doesn't have room to breathe, or if it's not well ventilated, certain components may be overheating, which may also cause it to turn off.
