Question about Computers & Internet
Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop running Windows XP is overheating and shutting down after 2-3 hours. A message on the screen appears indicating that it was necessary to prevent damage to the computer. The fan is working. Restarting is possible.
Start by cleaning the fan and heat sink. Dirt or dust build up can cause them not to work as efficiently as they should. If cleaning doesn't fix it, you might consider replacing the fan and heat sink or purchasing a cooling pad.
