Frozen screen Screen freezes or picture is fuzzyor it becomes a black screen. Sound is fine and can change channels. Sometimes it would shut itself off. Would turn it off and wait a minute and turn it back on, it is fine for a few minutes or an hour then the problem pops up again.

Check your wire connections. HDMI or rca. If you see the channel selection still or if you can select video sources then it’s not the screen itself but the connections
LCD's use a colorful crystal see through display which only visible when light is shining through it. if you have sound and no picture it's always a faulty PSU. Very easy to change out actually.
I also have a Brand new Sony Bravia 52" LCD with Comcast Cable (motorola box).When switching between HD Channels sometimes the left side of the screen shows a smushed version of the new channel, and the right side is a frozen picture of the previous channel. I correct this by switching to a non HD channel and back. Cable or TV problem I wonder?
Sounds like the PIP feature is causing the problem with the TV if you are connected directly to cable TV without a box inline and getting these issues.
The only thing I can recommend my freind, since I did not resolder the board, is for you to go over your work with a fine tooth comb. Yes I too, with 38 years experience, have cause problems while resoldering or rushing a repair. Good Luck
