The request cannot be performed because of an I/O device driver

  • katherinecor Feb 08, 2011

This unit had worked fine for 2-years, with the lap top I'm using, prior to the new error report it is giving me. I'm wondering if I had done something wrong to it. I had run a de-frag on it, and it froze in the process. I had done de-frags on it before with no problem, but maybe it was just too full. Yet when I google it, many people have the similar error.

1. your hard drive may not be compatible with the mother board
2. check the manufacturers installation set up instructions and compatibility information and see if it match you pc unit.
3. check the computer manufacturers site to see if your pc can accommodate the hard drive.
4. check the cable to see if it is connected backwards > that is is power connection to the cable getting a 5v /12 volt from the power supply> this may take a computer tech to check if you are not familiar with the electronics.

Download driver

Computers that request driver downloads are restorable by performing system updates. Once activated, the computer searches to compile the entire resources required from available networks. In situations that computer requests updates least networked would require ascertaining the exact program that is missing feature to cause functionalities. An extensive program malfunction least requires updates however requires reinstallation or new program altogether. The computer displays request to capture drivers as manufacturer designer's notification. Refer with computer support experts since request for missing driver would involve incompatibility condition least updatable. For example, missing computer drivers is installable on devices that are compatible to the system alternately, computers that least allows to replace drivers as incompatible will still request for drivers from peripheral devices. In such a situation, either the device requires attaining functionality on another computer or requires acquiring device that least requires drivers to function. Hi, I have a problem with my Acer Aspire 5732Z laptop. Upon boot up, I get a blue screen saying there is an error with my computer, and the following file name appears: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Not...

It seems you have an IRQ conflict. You install a driver and it wants to use an IRQ which is already assigned to a different device. That's why you can start in safe mode because the drivers for your added devices are not loaded.

The computing phrase "interrupt request" (or IRQ) is used to refer to either the act of interrupting the bus lines used to signal an interrupt, or the interrupt input lines on a Programmable Interrupt Controller (PIC). The interrupt request level (IRQL) is the priority of an interrupt request.

In computing, an IRQ conflict is a once common hardware error, received when two devices were trying to use the same interrupt request (or IRQ) to signal an interrupt to the Programmable Interrupt Controller (PIC).

The PIC expects interrupt requests from only one device per line, thus more than one device sending IRQ signals along the same line will generally cause an IRQ conflict that can freeze a computer.

To view your current IRQ assignments you can open Device Manager. Click on START, click on CONTROL PANEL. Click on Performance and Maintenance. Click on System. Click on the Hardware tab. Click the DEVICE MANAGER button. Once you have Device Manager open, select VIEW from the tool-bar menu, and then click Resources by Type. Double click on Interrupt Request (IRQ). If you are experiencing problems with a newly installed/configured piece of hardware and the drivers are installed correctly, then check to see if it has its own IRQ channel.

To change an IRQ setting follow these steps:
-Right click on the device in the list (see above), and then select properties.
-Click the Resources tab.
-Remove the tick from the Use automatic settings option.
-Select a non-conflicting configuration from the pull down box.
-Click OK.
