There are 2 causes for freezing. Lack of air flow or shortage of Freon. After defrosting, start the machine and look for an even pattern of water condensing on all the coils. If the cooling is even and complete on all the coils, see if the coil is so dirty that it restricts the air flow. The fan blade can build up dirt and need to be cleaned, too. If the cooling (condensation) is not complete, you have a Freon problem. Some of it could have leaked out or the metering tubes could be partially pllugged up (on the inside of them).

Freezing is caused by low freon pressure sounds like your unit needs to be charged.

My window ac unit keeps cycling off, before it gets to the assigned temperature. Help

What may be at issue is evaporator icing. Some units cycle the compressor, others control the refrigerant to keep the evaporator temp just above freezing. If allowed to continue the evaporator would freeze over and air flow would stop....
Check and see if that is the case...

I work at a holliday inn express and we have a lot of amana ac units and the problem we keep having in the summer is they freeze up with ice or fill up with water and leak all over the carpet. so im...

Yes, the client is keeping the unit on too cold. In my opinion, this design is wrong, wrong, wrong. When a user is not cool enough they turn the unit colder, and cause this icing up.
The best design keeps the evaporator coils above freezing at all times, automatically. Users have no idea and really cannot be expected to understand this issue.

Cars did the same thing (even Mercedes), and it is just nuts. If I was in your position, I would seek to have amana make a modification kit that would sense the evaporator temperature and interrupt the compressor until the temperature rises enough to keep icing under control. Under that scenario, max is max, period, but the unit will put out cold at all times, rather than icing up.

My Amanda wall unit keeps freezing up. Cleaned filter and coils, please advise. Thanks, Gilbert

If a AC unit starts to freeze up, then that is a sure sign that it is low on freon. A wall unit is harder to add freon to since those units generally do not have Shrader valves to purge or add freon. It is sort of like your refridgerator in that the freon is sealed in the factory and to add , a technician has to cut the evaporator tube and add a valve, then add freon, pinch the tube off and seal it once the correct pressure is adjusted.

I would say that somehow your unit has developed a leak, and will get worse.

My window air conditioner keeps freezing up

Have you cleaned the outside condenser coil you can clean it with a brush going up and down not sideways then rinse it with a water hose. Next clean the inside coild with brush and water hose. Sounds like an air flow problem. could also be low on charge.

Window air conditioner unit frosts over and stops working.

COILS USUALLY FREEZE UP DUE TO INSUFFICIANT AIRFLOW ACROSS THEM. IF THE FILTER IS DIRTY, THEN IT SHOULD BE REPLACED IF IT IS DISPOSABLE, OF CLEANED IF IT IS A PERMANENT ONE. THE ONLY OTHER REASON FOR A FREEZING COIL IS A LOW FREON CHARGE. IF THE UNIT HAS A LEAK, AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THEN RETURN IT TO THE MANUFACTURER. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

Mine has done this alot, mostly because I live in a state with ALOT of wind, and in an area with ALOT of dirt. Sounds like your coils are dirty. Try cleaning it out, or having it cleaned out. If you spray it with water just make sure your compressor is facing up and you don't use too much pressure. Hope this helps
