I have a Plextor PX-820SA DVD-CD internal burner. The drive reads and writes to CD's, but will not read or write to DVD's (I have tried several different types/brands of DVD media). Please...

this might be because you have not selected the option to burn an audio or data dvd or your burning software does not support dvd burning
there are plenty of free burning software programs on the internet

http://www.majorgeeks.com/BurnAware_Free_d5839.html

BurnAware Free is one of the most popular free CD, DVD, Blu-ray Disc burning software available for Windows.
Using this program you can easily create and burn Audio and MP3 CD, Data and DVD-Video disc, ISO and Cue Image,
erase or format rewritable disc, copy your CD or DVD to ISO image.

My CD/DVD burner isn't burning at the proper speed. I burned a disc that should have been 66:53, but it came out 66:38 (making the music a little bit fast). I did a burner test, with Exact Audio Copy and...

The speed is determined by the speed of the burner for the type of writable media (disk) you are using and the speed the writable media supports. (For example: I have CD-R disks from years ago that don't write as fast as the CD-R disks I purchased recently.)

The lowest of these two speeds is the max write speed.

Unfortunately, there is a ridiculously large number of disk writing standards which affect write speeds. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_recorder

Plextor px-708a will not recognize disks. Just removed a second DVD drive from the system and jumpered px-708a as MASTER. The system recognizes the drive; it just will not read.

as you've changed the configuration of the drive from slave to master you need to go into the bois and change the settings for the drive so that it reads the px as master cd drive

My PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A DOESN'T RECOGNIZE CD.

Go to Plextor.com and download the firmware update. If you have the 708A-UF model, make sure you install the firmware update using a USB cable. Using a firewire cable to do the update can cause a data corruption problem with the firmware update.

Try getting new firmware from Plextor and see if that doesn't help the problem.

The plextor dvdr px 708a stopped working

Hi,

Thanks for coming to FixYa, The problem you have is either a well documented software problem, corrupted plextor software or a failing drive.

Click the below link, then scroll down and click the "Fix It" button. Follow the onscreen instructions, restart when it's done and see if your drive re-appears. If it does, you're done, if it doesn't work then try re-installing the plextor software. Again if that doesn't work then your drive is most likely failed and you should replace it.

Hope this helps FixYa,
