Any Wireless router will setup a small hotspot.

Now when it gets expensive and little trickier, is when you add expanders to the orginal router to "expand" it to a greater range.

So, the 1st question is how far do you need the signal to go?

2nd question is how often are you going to change the WEP key?

Write back and we will go from there....

1. You can deploy the expander to the point or spot where you're getting a very low signal. From there, it'll give you an amplified signal again.
2. WEP key shouldn't be changed. I suggest much higher security level like WPA-Personal, WPA-PSK.

Hi. I don't have a modem for my laptop, so I use my phone's data to connect to the internet on my laptop. It used to work fine, but now its requesting for a "Network Security Key" and I do not know what it...

Do you mean your using your phone as a hotspot? Try inspecting or deleting the configuration on the phone to what the hotspot settings are and making sure those are the same for the laptop. Specifically see if your hotspot is requesting a passkey which most do.

When you setup your router you may have set one up.. you can try your normal password or ignore it and connect to your main connection.

Hotspot not connectin

check that the hotsport is configured as an AP, not as a Router/Modem. Then make sure that you have one internet cable (that actually has internet if you connect it directly to your laptop) coming to the WAN port of the router.
Setup the Wifi in the router. If problems, try to leave it Open (without password) to test.

I'm trying to run Wi Fi from my internet on my cell to my son's wii,can I do this?

The cell would have to be able to setup a hotspot. If enabled the wii should see the phone as any other wifi connection. So yes it is possible it depends on the phone.

How do I setup my dell inspiron 5150 to work off of my 3g hot spot from my verizon galaxy tablet?

First, you turn on the 3g hotspot function on the galaxy tab:
Then you follow the directions on the galaxy tab's screen.
If you need more detailed instructions you must tell what operating system (what version of Windows) you are using.

Can a router be setup without an active lan connection to the internet

Yes, but it won't do much other than connect your PC's together in a network. You will probably have to set it up manually in this case, which can be tricky if you don't know the right settings.
The best thing to do is to google the make and model of your router along with manual setup and you should find some help.

Router and aol

Connect the Router to the modem using Ethernet wire and then connect the laptop with an ethernet cord also and run the set up cd. make sure you get the right cabling.

and if you wnat to go wireless , then after running the set up cd, and was successful to make the wired conenction worked, then you can unplug the laptop now from the router and check if able to detect signal form router. usually you will get the prompt on the lower right hand cormer of the laptop.

then if is able to detect the signal, then log -on to that network.
