My flat cable on my nuvi 370 is detached from the antenna is there anyone that can replace my cable and antenna besides Garmin?

I lost my satellite signal on the first long trip that I took. I have updated my software and have done a reset several times. I contacted Garmin and they informed me that the repair cost would be $225.00, because it is no longer under warranty. After checking on the internet I determined that there could be a problem with the antenna or the connection so I decided to open the unit and take a look. The flat cable on the antenna was loose and when I tried to insert it into the recepticle it would not fit back in and the end of the cable broke off. Now I need a antenna with the cable attached to it, to replace

the old one. Garmin will not sell me one.

I tried to get a Nuvi on ebay but they were all priced to high and I was nervous about getting another one with the same problem. I decided to sell mine on ebay and take the money that I made and add some to it and I bought a Navigon 5100. It doesn't have all of the features the Nuvi 370 had but at least it works and I have lifetime FM traffic, Zagat, maps of Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, USA and Canada and Eastern and Western and Eastern Europe included with it. So far it seems to perform well the GPS satellites show up really fast and it recalculates fast.

The only problem that I have found is that some of the word pronunciation is a little bit off. But other than that I am happy with it.

    Thank you for your help,

    Pete

How do you know its detached? The cable is internal to the unit. Did you take it apart? What happened that caused you to take the unit apart?

I could not get a Nuvi on ebay for a reasonable price and I was still leary about switching the cable and having the same problem so I just listed mine on there and sold it. I changed from Garmin and bought a Navigon 5100. Once Garmin eliminates the flip top antenna I might consider buying one again but right now my Navigon seems to be a really good unit. Thank you for your help.

The flat antenna flex cable is attached to the main PCB and receiver board by connectors. The top of each connector has a flap, which you pry up with a very small screw driver. This allows you to slide the cable out. To put it back in, you slide the cable into the connector and push the flap down on the connector to lock it in place. The cable will not go back in unless you lift the flap. Trying to insert it into the connector without lifting the flat probably caused the cable to flex and crack.

You're best bet is to buy an AS-IS unit on eBay that is dead or has a defective LCD screen and use it for parts to fix yours. Stay away from any units that claim to have antenna problem. I know you can buy replacement screens for the Nuvi on eBay but I haven't seen replacement flex cables.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good Luck!

How can i update maps on my garmin nuvi 370 that i bought about 3 years back??

You can purchase map updates online from Garmin. Here's the link I use: https://my.garmin.com/maps/chooseDeviceType.htm

You'll need to connect your Garmin to your computer with a USB cable. Then go to the Garmin web site and follow their directions. You can buy a single update, or buy a "lifetime" (of the device) subscription to map updates.

Gps garmin nuvi 660

Please read the solution that resolved this problem for someone else. Most likely, you have already tried this. However, the antenna of your Nuvi 660 is the same as the 3xx Nuvi series. I know this because I have worked on them.

If the above procedure does not work for you, the entire antenna assembly will need to be replaced.
The other option is to purchase an external antenna for your Nuvi and plug it into the external antenna port (gold connector) on the Nuvi antenna assembly.

310 nuvi will not lock on to satellites

Please try this solution that helped someone else. If it doesn't help you then your antenna/receiver is defective and needs to be replaced. The antenna on the 310 & 360 are the same.

Nuvi 350 satellite reception problem

Having taken several Nuvi's apart, the flip up antenna has a 1/4" wide flat flex cable that runs from the flip up antenna assembly to the main board.

The flex cable carries the voltages required to power the antenna assembly and bring the signals back to the main board.

There is actually a printed circuit board in the flip up antenna assembly. It's possible that this is the receiver itself.

The flex cable runs through the round center hinge of the antenna assembly on the right (looking at the Nuvi from the rear) back to the main board.

There is also a magnet involved with the flip up antenna assembly that tells the main board whether the antenna is up or down. If the antenna is down, the Nuvi will NOT look for satellites.

A couple things can happen here that can make your Nuvi not find satellites: Assuming you have tried a hard & soft reset:

1. The antenna flex ribbon cable has become damaged.
2. The antenna flex ribbon cable has become detached from either end (it's held in with just a snap down flap).
3. The magetic switch isn't operating correctly and the main board thinks the antenna is down.
4. The front-end receiver has failed.

If your good at taking things apart (and the Nuvi is a little tricky to take apart), you might be able to verify some of the possibilities I mentioned above.

You might also try looking for a Nuvi for parts on eBay. Maybe you can find one that has a bad LCD screen and salvage the antenna from it.

Good luck!

Connection

use a cassette adapter. put the adapter in your car's cassette player and plug the wire into you garmin. when a command is made, it will play through your car's stereo, provided it is on the cassette mode. also, using the cassette adapter, you can play music from your nuvi if you have music loaded onto a sd card and placed in the nuvi's sd slot. the nuvi will interupt the music to give directions, then go back to playing music.
