I bought a used computer. The computer is asking for password.

Hi. Try to access the windows advanced option by turning the computer on and keep tapping F8. If you see the choices how to boot the system, select Safe Mode then press enter.

Log in as Administrator. It should not ask for a password. Go to the control panel and open the User account of user profiles. Click on the previous owner's profile and delete it. You may also create your own profile while your on safemode.

Hope that will help you!

I was given a compaq computer running Windows XP. It boots up to a previous user and is looking for that user's password. How can I reset password or access administrator account?

I would suggest you to try the following :

Boot the computer in safe mode.
Press F8 while booting the system, It will give you Windows Advance boot option, Select Safe mode and press Enter. You will see two accounts, Administrator and the Previous User's . Select the Administrator. If it allows you to log in, go to control Panel, User Accounts and delete the previous user's account and create a New user with your name. Reboot the computer in normal mode.

Hope this works. Please let me know if you need further Assistance. Your comments and ratings are highly appreciated.

Fiinding and reseeting administrator password in windows vista

hi,

If you don't remember the administrator password then login to the user account who has administrator acess. After logging into that users account you would be able to change the Administrator password. After logging into user account follow this steps to change password.

Click start--> go to Run--> Type "compmgmt.msc" without inverted codes--> select "local users and groups" there you select "users" in right hand side you can see "Administrator" select that option "right click" there you will get an option as "Set password" select that and change a new password.

Thanks,

I Need helpseeting an adminstrator account up on a used computer

Open control panel and create a new user account with administrator privileges. Log off the previous user and logon to the one you just created. Then delete the original user and this should set everything as default for you the new user.

If the password prompt is in a browser ie, Internet explorer or Firefox you will need to remove the addon (sounds like parental controls).

The only way of changing the registered owner would be to complete a fresh install of windows.

When you are booting the computer press F8 this should allow you the option to boot into safe mode, while in safe mode you can make an administartive account and modify user accounts to your heart's content.

System won't go past profile page..stuck

It seems that the Guest account profile is corrupted because of which you are unable to log in as like in previously.

In the Profile Login page, hold the Ctrl and Alt keys and press the Del key twice.

This will give you a window where you need to enter the User name and Password.

Enter the User name as administrator and leave the password column blank if you have not set any Password to the administrator account or enter the Administrator password if you have set any.

Now once you are loged into the Administrator account, create a new User from the Control Panel > User Accounts.

Set the required limitatios to the account like limited account or administrator account and log off from the administrator account.

Now, you should have the newly created user account available in the login page. Select it and you should be able to login.

Emachine

Log in as administrator, it usally does not have a password on it.

Then go to users and remove the password. Log in as that user and change the password to what you want.

If there is a password on the administator, then write back and we will go from there.
