Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

Server not found

When I use my WRT54G ver. 6 sometimes it works fine. However, I do get the "server not found" quite a bit. When I'm on my desktop all I have to do is hit the retry button and it loads usually the first time. But when I'm on my laptop it's not that easy. Usually, I can't get it to load right a way. Sometimes I can't get it to load at all. I talked to my internet provider (thinking that it may be their problem) and he told me to try using the internet without the wireless by plugging the dsl modem directly into my desktop/laptop. When I did this I had no problem connecting to any site on the first try. So, I know it is a problem with my wireless router. The tech at my IPS told me that it was probably a bad wireless box. What I don't get is why sometimes I can connect to most websites and other times I can't. Even the most stubborn websites (the ones that I almost always can't connect to the first try) I can get in using the "cached" function but that only let's me see the home page. If I connect to a link that way I will just get "server not found" again.

I've uploaded the latest and greatest IE/Firefox. I've reset both my dsl and wirless boxes a number of times. I've downloaded all the windows xp/vista patches, etc. and it still happens. So, my conculsion is that it has to be a problem with my linksys box. What do I do?

Have you checked your HOSTS file? It may have been tampered with somehow. I ask this because you're having issues with both browsers. If it's not a DNS problem, it may be linked to hosts file, which determines what websites you can get to see.

Hi, I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, and every time I want to connect with my WIFI the router reboots. This issue only happens with my Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, other phones and devices work just fine....

Hello,

Just had same problems with my brand new Xperia Mini Pro and old WRT54G ver 5. Every time I connected with WiFi the router restarted (once it returned to factory settings). I updated the router firmware to latest version (1.00.6 to 1.02.8) and after this it works fine.

Best Regards

The internet works but my linksys wrt54g ver.6 just stopped working. It is like it is not passing the signal along. I didn't know if there was a way to reset it and reformat it. I did not know if this was...

Remove the power cord for 1 minute and plug back in. If problem exists, the reset button is located to the left of the Ethernet jack. Depress for 3 seconds and release. The router should reset but will need to be reprogrammed.

It can be fixed most likely unless its just an old unit that has burnt out. Try reinstalling the software that came with it and rebooting your system. If that doesn't work search for discussion in wireless router discussion forums.

Wrt54g ver 6 driver download link

Router's do not have drivers. If you are talking about firmware you can get it from here
http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/downloads/WRT54G-v5v6_1.02.5_fw.bin

You just have to configure it. Here's the manual that may help you out with the configuration process

Post back if you want me to walk you through it.

Frimware Upgrade

Apparently not, but I'm guessing you already knew that.

Look carefully at the label and the firmware installed in your router. The 1.02.5 is listed for 5 and 6 only and version 8 is for 8 only. There is no 7 listed, so it was either a special run or there is just no firmware upgrade for it yet. It must have been perfect :-)

Add di-704p to an existing network

What you want to do should be quite easy:

1. Just connect one of the LAN ports of the DI-704P to a LAN port of your WRT54G. Try using a standard network cable. If the port status lights does not turn on on both sides when you connect the cable, use a "crossover" cable. Important: leave the DI-704P WAN port empty.

2. Disable the DHCP server on your DI-704P, your WRT54G will be the DHCP server.

3. Assign a static IP address to you DI-704P, different from your WRT54G. Example, if your WRT54G has 192.168.2.1, you may assign 192.168.2.4 to your DI-704P. Make sure that the IP address you assign is outside the DHCP range configured in your WRT54G and that the subnet mask is identical on both.
You will then be able to use your print server from any wired and wireless computer and the remaining LAN ports both on the WRT54G and DI-704P.

Server connection WRT54G

This sounds like your work laptop is configured to configure the connection manually. Do you use your wireless at work? If you do not use your wireless at work, then you need to open your network properties (WINDOWS XP, click start button, then right click on "network places" and select properties, then right-click on your wireless card and select properties). in the middle box, double-click on the TCP/IP properties, and in the box that opens, select the button to "configure my network automatically". Do the same for the button at the bottom (DNS). This should fix the issue. If you do use your wireless at work, then you will need to remember (put into notepad and save to desktop) the settings that are in there already, and then set the same.

Hope this helps. If not, then I can get more in depth with you.
