Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-20FV300 20" TV

Volume goes up on its own!

Hi,

When I turn on my Sony KV-20FV300 the volume goes up on its own and eventually maxes out. The volume down button is still functional, but none of the other buttons on the TV (or on the remote) seem to do anything.

I've seen that a couple other people have had the same problem (with my same TV and other sizes of Sony TV's) and I've tried what they've done to fix the problem (unplug the TV for a week or cover the IR sensor), but with no avail. Is there something more that the service manual suggests or something in a service bulletin that I can try?

Thanks.

Hi, We are Zener

we suggest you reset the tv with a secuence of service
that is exclusive with the remote,
is pressing the buttons(display channel 5 volume + power)
the tv turn on, appears parameters on the screen, only press
8 and enter, all your set get as you buy it.

Note: change any parameter, because you are getting in the tlevision`s memory.

Zener, from Mexico

Bye

The volume stays on high. I can lower it but, after I release the button the volume goes back to high.

I have the same problem with KV-20-FV-300. My remote stopped working and when I adjusted the volume manually, it goes to high and when it adjust it back down, it goes high again. I'm able to get the sound to stabilize by getting the volume to where I want it, and then pushing the up and down volume buttons at the same time. I'm still searching for a permanant solution though.

WOW never heard this one . You might check the volume down button on the tv to see if it is depressed in . What is the model # and do you clean the picture tube with windex ? Maybe some of it has seeped down onto the control board and has gummed up the volume down button. Good luck

Sony TV power and volume not working

Since remote does not work, try taking out batt and turning on by set. See if still turns up. It could be that the up button is jammed inside set. Does everything else works? See if you can go to menu and turn speakers off, this will allow you to work on set and not worry about noise.

Volume gone mad

Is there a ceiling fan in the same room? Under the right conditions, light reflecting off the whirling blades hits the TVs sensor at just the right frequency, causing mysterious things like this. Try covering the infrared sensor on the TV (it should be behind a red transparent piece of plastic somewhere in the front. If this keeps it from "going mad", then something in the room is to blame. If it still does it even when the sensor is covered, then it is the TV. Good luck, and let us know what you find!
