The drivers for the scanner might have been corrupted
you might have to uninstall the printer/scanner restart your computer then reinstall the printer/scanner and its drivers
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to ports(COM&LPT) + to expand you should see a communication port and Ecp printer port you might see a yellow?question mark this will mean you need to install a new driver for this device right click you will have options to update driver,disable,uninstall or select properties again you will have the similiar options plus you can troubleshoot
scroll to the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click you can select task manager applications also processes you will see whats running on your computer at the time of your scan select end now to stop the previous scan you might have a virus also select users you will see who is using your computer
