Question about GE Spectra JGBP35 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Lower ignitor bad?

I have the GE Spectra Oven JGBP35BEA5BB and the lower (oven bake) will not turn fire. Generally happens every weekend, go figure! Now I am about to purchase a new ignitor and install it. Is it better to buy a GE part or will other after market parts work. Just looking at the cost factor. $90.00 vs $48.00. Fairly easy repair. The stove is 6 years old.
It works fine during the week, but always seems to choose the weekends not to work.

As long as you replace the existing igniter with one of compatible specifications, you should be okay. The type of igniter you have is called a Carborundum and produces 2.5 to 3.0 amps. I found a replacement at searspartsdirect.com for about $68. Just type in your model number and look under the "Gas Burner Parts" heading for item number 28 (part #WB2X9154). The part number used by Sears is the SAME number used by GE and sells for about $30 less! I also found the part listed at repairclinic.com for about $64 (item 1990). Click on the following link for a complete explanation of the igniter types and how to replace:

If you can find the part for less, that's great. Make sure you use the GE part number as a cross-reference to ensure you are getting the correct igniter. I hope this helps you.

Hello - Most troubles with ranges occur during the "self-clean" cycle. The problem- no lower burner- could be a bad ignitor. Part is 40-75$ Fairly easy to install, or have done for about 75-100$ Let me know if info helps- I have more if you need it - Thanks- ED

My GE Profile spectra JGBP79 oven does not turn on---gas oven

Turn off the gas supply to the range. Remove the oven racks, oven base pan, flame spreader.

Place a clamp on amp meter on one wire of the ignitor and turn the oven on to BAKE. When the ignitor glows it should read more than 3 amps. If it reads 3 amps or less replace the ignitor.
If it does not glow at all, replace the ignitor.

Lower oven burner will not light.

Hi I have a older GE that the oven won't light. It is a gas range that is electric ignited. The top burners do work but the oven will not light. Is it pricey to have this fixed?

Bake ignitor Location

Hi Kurt, welcome to FixYA!
In the diagram below, Part #28 is your ovwn ignitor. (See the red markings to highlight it)
It is located underneath the oven floor, and the floor should come out by removing the two screws located in the bottom rear of the oven cavity. Take out the racks, take out those two screws, and lift the oven bottom up from the rear, then disengage the front lip and lift it out. I hope this is helpful info and thanks for allowing us to be of service to you.

Temperature control

sounds like a bad bake ignitor(uneven heat, long cook times, long preheat times, perhaps even gas smell while cooking)

Where do I light my gas oven?

Hello Slacker3158 how old is this oven? I only ask as GE hasn't built a standing Pilot range in over 18 yrs. The issue may be a bad oven ignitor. Put the oven on broil, if it works then the bake ignitor is bad. It is found under the bottom of the oven. There is 2 to 4 screws inside the oven that allows the bottom to be removed.

Ge spectra xl44 stove

Most likely the oven ignitor is bad or weak.  You can look at it and see how it compares to the broil ignitor.  If you see a whitish color on the ignitor and if it doesn't fully glow then it needs to be replaced.
