Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

GE Spacemaker XL1800 Buzzing

This morning, my seven year old microwave started a buzzing noise that appears to come from high up on the right side (console) from inside the oven.  It started when I hit the clear button to close the top vent after not completing a cook time.  When I turn the fan on, the buzzing stops.  When I turn the light on, the tone of the buzzing changes.  Is there an easy fix for this??

Having the same problem myself. Just started last week. Mine only buzzes when I turn the light on or cook. Am looking for a solution.

Same problem here. The buzzing volume changes when I adjust the light but it's always there and it's getting annoying!

Ge spacemaker XL1800 - open the door and it starts buzzing - unplug and it quits - plug back up and push any button and all it does is buzz - will not do anything else

That's a defective electrolytic capacitor on the control circuit board.

GE Profile Spacemaker XL1800 The microwave runs, the lights come on, timers goes, but it does not heat/cook and it makes a loud buzzing sound. What is wrong with it,and can I repair or trouble shoot it?

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If it’s a loud hum/buzz sound then 90% it’s usually a bad magnetron and other times it’s a bad high voltage diode. However, from what you have described it seems to be the magnetron. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

My GE Spacemaker XL1400 appears to be working, but is not

Hello,

It could be an issue with the diode, high-voltage capacitor or the magnetron itself.

G.E. Spacemaker XL1800- Loud constant buzzing noise. Help

My microwave was totally dead. Things I discovered: 1) There is an easily replacable fuse accessed by taking off the top front vent cover (two screws on top, gently massage off) and then the inside plastic grill. UNPLUG before doing this! 2) Pop off two wires on either end of fuse holder for safety. Then pop out fuse and replace. For more extensive help, there is an evelope with a wiring diagram inside the case on the inside wall! Very helpful when diagnosing the surface lamp problem (I forgot to plug the ballast back in when I closed up the bottom).

Ge microwave - making noise

I have a GE counter top microwave oven. When the oven starts cooking (the magnetron turns on) the oven makes a harsh buzzing noise. What is wrong and what should be done?

Loud and not heating

If it's less than a year old, it's still under warranty. If it's just over a year old, GE will still cover parts, but you'd have to pay for labor.

The most likely causes are a shorted high-voltage diode or a bad magnetron.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
