Need to clarify; this unit is not a TV set,it a DVD Home Theater "soundbar" w/DVD Player.

  • oreshelman Jul 22, 2008

X changing the unit is tough since its fully installed w/all cables hidden in walls already,"they" seem unwilling to let me Xchange head unit only.

  • oreshelman Jul 22, 2008

As I said,I stupidly fished the cables thru walls, etc. already & would like an "in place" solution or Xchange/repair the head unit only.

  • oreshelman Jul 22, 2008

I followed pg 9 instructions numerous w/out any change.

  • oreshelman Jul 22, 2008

If I unplug it,as suggstd, for 5+ min & then replug it shows dull red light far rght corner, then as soon as I press pwr for a sec or 2 in order to turn - all I get is low pwr messg.

  • oreshelman Jul 22, 2008

Short of tearing all out of the wall,I've unplug every cable & connection, even "bypassing prev install cables w/substitutes outside w/out effect!

Low power is just another word for standby, when doing this press the power on button again, or press something on the unit to power it up. if it still does not work you might have a power issue on the power board. call your manufacturer or ceck your manual.

Power supply may be faulty. A service manual is necessary to troubleshoot it or if is not available, better take to an authorized electronics service station.

There are a number of internal sensor circuits designed to protect the unit from major damage. It could be that one of these circuits is failing and "detecting" a problem that doesn't exist. In any case, this unit is under warranty. I would suggest that you return it for an exchange. Don't spend a lot of time on this, the unit is defective.

The "low power" standby mode is also an indication of protection mode. The user can force a "low power" standby as indicated by Ginko, the problem here is that the unit enters this mode automatically. This is because there is a problem with the unit. Try disconnecting the speaker wires only. Is there any change to the behavior? If so, look for a shorted speaker wire. The fault may be in the wiring inside the walls.

Check that you bought an appliance with same power specification required for your country.
For example if you are in UK it is 240Volts etc.

Check the sticker at the back of the appliance to find out required voltage.

Hey "Low power " in your unit it is not an error message!
It is just indicating it enters in the "low power standby mode" This is normal, just press the power on button to restart the unit.
Your unit is fine, check low power standby mode in the user guide, it is just a standard feature.

    |Here is the manual,
    check page 9 it says:
    STANDBY ON 2
    – Turns on this unit or turns off to normal
    standby mode.
    – Press and hold to turn off to low power
    standby mode.

    Ginko Jul 22, 2008

You do not need to Xchange the unit, as the low power message is normal. Unit is just in standby mode, you need to turn it on.
If you tell us where you did buy the unit from, I can get you in touch with customer support.
If you damaged or modified the unit no replacement will be possible.

you will need to check the fans are all switching on when you turn the tv on, it might be one of the fan sensors that has gone bad, the tv wont turn on if it detects that the fans or a single fan is not working. I have not worked on this particular set , but that would be the first place i would look, if you find a fan is not firing up and if you have a multimeter, then check to see if you have a 12v voltage going to the fan, an easy way of rectifying it is to run a wire from one of the other working fans to the positive of the fan that isnt working. This would at least eliminate the fan as the culprit, if the tv starts up normally then the problem lies in why the fan is not receiving power. I ran a tv using this method for over 8 months before it died, from other problems i might add , not the fact i bypassed the fan power circuit.

Parental code

To reset this condition usually requires a visit to the repair shop. To clear the parental control from the AKAI brand sets, you must enter the "Service" mode of the television. WARNING: There ARE adjustments in the service menu that CAN destroy your television if improperly adjusted.

This should not matter to you as long as you are simply reseting the parental lock function.

You must have the ORIGINAL FACTORY remote. (The one that came with the television when it was new.)

With the remote press the following one at a time in order:

MUTE - 1 - 8 - 2 - POWER.

Now you should be in the service menu where you should see RESET. Select reset and enter. Turn off TV.

Your done. When you turn your set back on, the code should be cleared.

TV will not power on

I guess you already tried different outlets and plugging the TV straight to the wall outlet. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO WORK ON THIS YOURSELF!! Have a qualified tech come out and look at it. First, call around, found out where the reset button is. Get price quotes.
