No, keyboards are too cheap to justify opening up a keyboard and attempting to clean it, especially if you drink your coffee with sugar, the sugar works at the etchings, and when you attempt to clean the traces, you wipe them away rendering the keyboard useless.

No matter how careful you may be, knocking a cup of coffee or spilling a glass of soda over your keyboard may happen. This does not, however, mean the end of your keyboard. If you act quickly, you may be able to fix your wet keyboard to avoid any corrosion of its electronic components or any short circuit which might render it unusable. By following a few recommendations, you should be able to fix your wet computer keyboard.

Unplug the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any corrosion or short circuit. If you spilled water over your laptop's keyboard, turn your computer off by clicking on "Shut Down" on "Turn Off" in the start menu, unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Turn the keyboard upside down and shake it to remove most of the water from it. Take a hair dryer and set it to its lowest temperature setting. Use it to dry any water which might remain under your keyboard's keys. Wait at least 12 hours before plugging your keyboard into your computer again. If your computer is a laptop, wait 12 hours before turning it on again. For Other Liquids Disconnect the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any short circuit or corrosion. Turn your computer off by selecting "Shut Down" or "Turn Off" in the start menu, remove the battery and disconnect the power supply. Place paper towels on a table, turn the keyboard upside down and shake it over them to allow most of the liquid to fall down. Take a few clean paper towels and wipe the liquid off your keyboard's keys. To clean between the keys, you can also use cotton swabs with just a little bit of water. If the liquid which you spilled over your keyboard contained a high amount of sugar, such as soda or sugared coffee, you might have to remove some of your keyboard's keys to clean the surface under the keys with paper towels or swabs. You can do so by lifting them gently with a screwdriver or by using a key remover, which you can find in some IT stores. Wait at least 12 hours before using your keyboard again. If your computer is a laptop, wait the same length of time before turning it on again. 4,5,6 upper key, right key, left key, call button not working

This is almost always caused by a minor spill of some form.
If it's a desktop keyboard, hey, the amount of work involved in cleaning the thing out just isn't worth it.
get a new $5 or $10 keyboard from wal-mart.
If it's a really expensive keyboard, or your dead dad gave it to you and you just can't part with it, or if it's a laptop keyboard, reply to this post and I'll help you out.
Be forewarned though, you're in for a 1-3 hours work depending on what kind of keyboard it is. (if it's a laptop keyboard, give the make/model of the laptop).

Got liquid spill on lap top keyboard, lap top works fine, but some keys do not work, any suggestions!!!

Hi there,

Almost every laptop keyboard ever produced (or so it would seem) is available new as a part on eBay. It's where I buy all mine. SInce you don't mention the model of laptop here, just got to ebay's main page and in the search box type your laptop model followed by the word "keyboard". Most of them there are around $10 while others range up to $25.

Keyboards are usually just about the quickest and easiest part to replace on a laptop.

Best Regards,

Marcus

When powering up just shuts off

you should have let it dry completely before powering it up, eventually the Power supply card(voltage regulator) got wet and stopped working, you need to have it replaced, it's not a battery problem even though the ps card might have damaged the battery a bit.

Hi. I spilled coffee on keyboard ACER 9410 laptop. Now a couple of the keys do not work and screen jumps when I hit some keys on right side of keyboard. Can I replace the keyboard to fix the problem and...

I did the same thing. Here's what I did:
Took whole thing apart. Cleaned any coffee with q-tips dipped in water / paper towels. Removed the keyboard. Ran it through the dishwasher with no soap in it and heated dryer off of course.
I let it dry for a day and was bummed that now the whole keyboard stopped working. Well then 4 days later to my surprise / delight.. the whole thing started working again. New keyboards on ebay were also very reasonable. But mine still works perfectly after the dishwasher cleaning.

Another keyboard will not work

laptop keyboards also go. Has anything been spilled on it that you know of ?

Try plugging in a USB keyboard and see if the problem goes away. If so, you need to just get a new keyboard for the laptop.

I alreay had to change mine when I spilled VERY little coffee on it.

Why did you disable any drivers? Simply plugging in a USB keyboard would allow it to work. I fear that when you spilled your coffee you did more harm than just a 'sticky' keyboard.
