I am at a friend's house. Tried to use her washing machine which was left shut for months. I could not open the door. The door is not in locked position and it should open but it seems there is something in the bottom that is latching onto the door. I need help. I even tried doing one more spin cycle to see if it would work but it didn't.

Is all the water out of the machine if not the door wont open.
if all the water has gone, have a look behind the small flap on the front of the machine where the filter is and there might be a small plastic loop which when pulled should release the door catch.
please note i say might as some models have this feature and some dont.

hope this helps

I can't get the door open on our washing machine, a SIWAMAT XLS 1650. Is the locking mechanism electronic, or mechanical?

The locking mechanism is electromechanical. If the machine is switched on for its cycle & then off, it takes about 2 minutes to open. In normal course it should open it immediately. Your locking mechanism is stuck & needs to be replaced.

Using of Siemens Siwamat

press the start button after the door is closed.
if it does not start - the door switch/latch is likely bad.
