There can be many reasons why you have a blank screen with a blinking cursor.
try removing all external device connected to your computer like printer, keyboard, mouse and others then restart if still a blank screen you will need to to remove your hard drive cd rom/dvd drive then restart your computer if still blank try to remove the memory of your computer. with the memory removed your computer should be beeping indicating no presence of memory then it means to say your computer is good. a device could be malfunctioning causing your computer not to boot. try to identify that device and replace it

While bootup your computer, press F1 or F2 button to enter set up, check if the hard disk
detected in auto set up. save change and exit. your computer will bootup automatically. If that does not solve your problem. your computer might likely contacted bootable viruses.get a bootable antivirus to start up your computer. this should clear the fault.

From your description of the problem the laptop itself is in good condition, but it appears the operating system's software is either corrupted or needs to be re-installed. that should solve the problem

Had trouble booting the computer over time. Sometimes power light would come on and nothing else. By unplugging, waiting 15sec it would power up. Over time this stopped working. Eventually power light...

Time to look for a new computer. That and take out your hard drive to copy your files over.

Sounds like motherboard problem. Probably not worth repair.

I've got an HP desktop with similar problems. It turned on one day just fine. The next day not. I don't even get the boot up screens. Disconnecting Hard Drive and CD/DVD components do not help. I should at least get some BIOS POST beeps and a Hard Drive Not Found or such. I do not. On occassion it will boot to a blank screen with white cursor in upper left. Most the time no screen at all. On rare occassion it comes right on and boots Windows. I guess it could be the power switch ... but I doubt that.

Blank screen

Try plugging the laptop into an external monitor to make sure the laptop is booting up properly. If it is unplug the monitor from the laptop; or if you know the laptop boots up fine and you get the windows audio when it boots and the initial starting beeps then forget the monitor. Shine a torch or light source on the screen and if you see a faint picture then the inverter on the screen has developed a fault.

Black blank screen Lenovo 3000 N100

You say the laptop all of a sudden flashed off.

How old is the laptop? You may have suffered one of two things? First of all, if the hard drive will not boot back up, even after using the recovery discs, then that would explain it powering off. I have seen this happen on old desktop hard drives.

Next, try to get the transformer or adapter tested. It may not be putting out enough amperage to run the laptop.

My srceen goes Blank

Hi,

first try booting the laptop and pressing the Fn key with the numerical ( numbered key ) that has a picture of 2 screens on it. This is for booting to an external monitor. you could also try adding an external ( pc monitor ) this will eliminate any motherboard Faults.

Secondly, the graphics chip driver may be corrupt or not installed correctly. if you have a restore cd, you could try booting the laptop, with the cd in the drive.

you can then try, to see if the settings in the bios are all correct, by booting/starting the laptop and pressing esc or F2 or delete immediately as the laptop starts. ** Be-Careful** what you adjust.
My suggestion is to look for. ** default settings tab** or load setup defaults.

these are the obvious things to try, before assuming that you have a faulty graphics chip or motherboard fault.

Laptop goes into permanent sleep mode, etc

If you can restart it and it starts up fine, then I would go into the power settings and disable sleep mode. Every computer is different on how to wake a sleeping computer, so you could read through your manuals and find out for yours, but I just disable sleep mode on all computers so i dont have to hassle with it.

I have a presario compaq v3230AU lap top that does not boot.the power turns on but the screen remains blank.wat could be the problem.please advice

Hi there. It would help if you provided more info regarding your problem. The follwing would be good startpoints:

1. What was the last time you were able to do with the laptop?
2. Have you made changes [immediately] before the issue started happening?
3. How old is the PC?
4. What are its specifications (ie.CPU speed, memory type and size, OS, etc.)
5. Have you experienced this same problem before using the same computer, or on another computer?

Well, here's a shot in the dark. If the unit is, say more than 5 years old, it's probably a hardware defect. Meaning your unit's screen display data connection is already out of order. This usually happends to laptops with data connections too compactly embedded between the hinge of the laptop lid and chassis.
