I am getting no sound from my computer
sometimes a music/playback program will shut the sound off even if you have left it off it on in the windows volume control... if you haven't already done so, you should open all the controls (right click on the icon in your task bar to open them) and check the settings for all the types of sound available, not just that they are on, but the volume levels as well... it may be that something else has turned one or more of them down or off.
you may also want to check the sound and audio settings found in your control panel, be sure that the silence checkbox isn't marked and the rest of the settings are correct according to your hardware.
if your hardware isn't showing as an option in one or more places, then you will need to go to the system settings in the control panel, choose the hardware tab and click on the device manager. look for your sound card... if it is marked with anything (usually yellow or red), or it doesn't show at all then there is a problem with your sound card... if it is a plug and play, sometimes just taking it out and putting it back will do the trick... but you can try using the trouble-shooting helper first.
if it is an on-board device, then you will have to ask the manufacturer to replace it, if it is still under warranty, or buy a plug and play sound card, the price will depend on the quality of sound and the sound banks for midi files, but you can probably find on that's reasonably priced if you don't have great expectations or if you don't need to do any serious musical recordings.
please let me know if you have any more questions, or if any of this works for you :)
best of luck!
