Hi, I've been having some issues with games recently playing on my DVD RW Drive, on on Vista and whenever I wish to play a game by double clicking the shortcut, sometimes it takes me to the Windows Explorer and takes ages to load - in fact it goes quick at start and slows down at the end until it stops completely. I find that the only solution to read the disk and play Is to restart PC and it will work fine after that.
I'm not sure it's got anything to do with my DVD RW Drive and I'm sure it's Vista that's the problem :(
My DVD RW Drive Is a LG GSA-H42N, would appreciate the help :)

Re: DVD RW Drive
Vista sucks. However, delete your drive and change the IDE cable. Also, put the drive onto another IDE channel so it re-initializes your drive - winodws data bases a drive when it has more than 5 DMA errors and clocks its speed down to PIO - very slow

Your issue need a specific software to be able to play a DVD.
For your issue, normally whenever you purchase a DVD (either a writer or a player) it should came with a DVD decoder for you to be able to play one. If you don't have it you can install it.
Here is the where you can download it. (2 Option)
1. you can download a free codecs. Go to google and type in k-lite. Choose the first option which is free-codec.com then look for the k-lite and install the full version.
2. Download VLC, its a player that came with a codec.
Hope this will help you and resolve your issue.

Assuming you have tried different makes of cd or dvd disks, it's a classic drive failure problem where the laser can no longer burn or read dvd's, but may still be able to read cd's only.
You will have to replace the drive, they are quite inexpensive, and very easy to fit.
If you have posted the correct model of writer, then it only supports the writing of DVD+R and DVD+RW discs, but CD-R and CD-RW disc writing are supported, and it should play all forms of DVD, so it won't burn DVD-R and RW discs, but if it wont play all types then try a cd/dvd cleaner, but to be honest when writers start playing up the lens is normally faulting and a replacement drive will be required.
you can try uninstalling the drive, by going to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down the list for cd/dvd drives, click on '+' sign and right click on your drive make and select uninstal.
Restart pc and your drive will be reinstalled automatically again.
If you have a cd cleaner disc run that also.
Try to run the game again, although it may still not work as the drives laser seems to be out of line or simply run it's life, and a new drive is the only answer i'm afraid.
