Question about Compaq PC Desktops

4 Answers

I have a Compaq Desktop computer. Model# DPS-250RB A. The computer was working fine the other day, Brought it to my house and tried hooking it up to a monitor and the monitor wont recieve signal. Not sure what the problem is. Could be that we tried putting in a 256mb video card to use for World of Warcraft. After this we hooked it up to a monitor and there was no signal. Took out the video card and hooked back up...still no signal. We also put in a stick of ram. It was DDR which i am almost positive that is the right kind of ram for this computer.

As to the post from kigwa, i have tried the computer with 3 different monitors. Still nothing. I have also done what ucp-fru suggested. I will try what Darklord1 said now. Thank you all for the suggestions :)

Hey,,

try this,
1.) unplug the system
2.) remove the memory
3.) remove the mainboard battery(cmos battery)
4.) press the power button 5 times
5.) replace the battery
6.) replace the rams
7.) boot it up
8.) enter setup
9.) load defaults then save and exit

if that works then try putting back in the graphics cardm you may need to repeat steps 1 - 9 after installing the graphics card. and pls insure the monitor is connected to the graphics card.

Beeping sound means that the memory (rams is damaged) replace it and you'll be fine

"2) Pull up and hold open the latch on the top of the computer."

"3) Slide the computer access panel back about 0.5 Inch (1/2 Inch, or 1.3Cm), then lift off the unit."

The Access Panel has tabs formed out of it's sheet metal construction. These tabs have a hooked end. The hooked end must be brought towards the back of the computer, so it will be free of the matching slot in the metal frame of the computer case.

Then it can be lifted up, and off.

Included the Service Manual, for questions you may have in the future.

Trying to hook up compaq presario 5000 desktop, monitor is not working correctly, it works with the old Gateway computer, so I know the monitor and cable are good

check to see if you have two ports in the back of your desktop, try the other one if you do. If not, there is most likely a loose connection.

Completion Code 2? Hard drive failure?

Ok let me try to give my idea,

Are you familiar of running it in DOS(if your OS is windows). Try to boot in cdrom using DOS. Then try to access your harddrive using the command prompt. Make some browsing up to third degree folder. If you can browse. Then probably your HD is good could be data corruption that's why you can't pass even in the safe mode. Then your options are repair, restore, or reinstalled depends on the features of your unit.

Leave some comments so I can give anothers ideas from your updates.

Try reseating the memory.  I have moved computers and 9 times out of ten the memory came loose.  So just take out the sticks make sure they're not too dusty then put them back in.

No Power!!

Double check the switch in the back of the pc on the power supply. If their is a switch, you can try it in both positions. It is possible their is no switch, older compaq's are iffy. The switch will be black. Also check the 110/230 switch. I don't know what country you live in, however you may need to make sure that switch is in the appropriate spot. 110 for USA and 220/230 for UK

Also, try unplugging your pc. Let it set for about 1 minute. Plug it back in and try again.
