Did you try reinstalling the drivers for your sound card or on board sound driver ? they should be on the driver cd that came with your system , you may also want to verify that the jacks are connected correctly, they are color coded.

If you dnt have your driver cd you can post the main bord model here or the sound card model and we can get a link to them for you.

To verify that your drivers are installed correctly and there isnt anything wrong with your system

1.) go to the control panel
2.) go into the device manager
3.) look for anything with a yellow marker relating to multimedia or pci device, if a yellow marker is spotted by any one of these then there is eighter a problem with your device of or drivers.

try reinstalling the drivers ,, if that faiuls then you may want to consider purchasing a sound card and installing it, its a lot cheaper than a new main board.

Sound

This sounds like it could be a loose connection to the speakers somewhere. Check the audio connection with the PC. Also try wobbling the speaker wires to see if you can improve/worsen the problem by doing so. I think its unlikely to be software although you can check the device manager to make sure there are no audio driver issues: start>control panel>hardware and sound>device manager. Look for sound and video game controllers. Expand the menu, look for the audio device, right click and click properties. The general tab will tell you if the driver is working properly.

No hdmi sound, no sound devices

Try to use external or internal sound card, if you find it working it means that the sound device of your Sony Vaio is the real problem. This means that you have to use another sound card device to be installed in your Sony PC, because built-in soundcards is connected to the motherboard of the PC so fixing that problem will cost you a lot.

Configuring two soundcards for parallel functioning

a windows computer can only use one sound card for one function

you can use the internal sound card for output
you can use the usb sound card for input / recording.

you can't use both for both.

Start -> control panel -> sounds and audio devices properties
open up audio page

You can have one device selected on Sound playback
You can have one device selected on Sound recording.

you can change which sound card is used for which function on this page. if you want to use the internal sound card set both settings to the internal if you want to use the external change both settings to the external.
