The shutter on my NIKON d70s often blocks during a session with, so it seems, no reason! What could cause that?

have you contacted Nikon about this issue, they stand behid their products and since you have bought so many of these it seems to me that they will listen to you. Have you tried the camera in "auto" mode just to see if the problem is there too?

"rXX" is the cameras estimate of how many shots legt on your memory card. As for other issue: Turn camera "ON" and remove battery while holding shutter button for about 30 seconds. Turn off, reinsert battery, turn "ON" then press hardware reset button on bottom of camera for about 2 seconds. Page 200 in Nikon d70 (do not know about d70s) manual.

You need to press the button half-way first to allow an exposure reading to lock on to.

keep the camera to m mode and keep shutter speed b and hold click and take hear-bud take care of shutter blade or your will damaz shutter blade

PROBLEM IN MOTOR

I have a Nikon D70 which failed completely but exhibited similar symptoms.
I was fortunate in that I had taken out 3 years free warranty at the point of purchase and therefore saved the £90 (sterling) repair cost.
Nikon cameras are designed to be robust and should give a lifetime's service. Most should give 150,000 shutter actuations.
There is a piece of free software available on the Web that will tell you how many actuations were recorded on your recent photos.
Unfortunately, in the fast moving world of digital cameras, the value of a 2nd user older camera is very low.
You need to decide if you were outgrowing this camera body and want to replace it with something better or whether you would be lost without it. My repair took more than 1 month and I was not able to take any photos during his time.

I had the same problem with my D70.
Ended up having the shutter repaired at the tune of $135.
Works fine now.

The shutter is a copal shutter and it does change . Try 125th speed haer the sound and then change to 1/15th . Also you can tell on your histragram inthe camera or the image on your display .

Have you tried looking inside the camera with the lens removed?

Check to see if the shutter fully operates and the mirror is jamming on return or if it is in fact the shutter.

Both faults will require a service, the shutter is impossible for a tinkerer to replace/service and the mirror jamming error is equally tricky.

Format the card. I have same problem with mine ---requires a new shutter assembly.$40.00 item and they want $300.00 to fix it at Henry`s cameras. Ouch .Better to buy a new camera.
