Yes. Almost any flash unit will work. It only need a proper hot shoe.

Hey judyrosebudd,
You should be able to use any flash that is not dedicated to another camera manufacturer. Even though the manufacturer lists this camera as a dedicated flash unit it still has the sync contact in the center of the hot shoe mount, which is all that is required to operate a all manual flash. This being said a dedicated flash should provide much more advanced options and simplicity of use. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

My flash unit seems to be functional, but won't work when taking pictures with the T70.

Is this a canon dedicated flash? Does it fire but you don't get a picture or is most of it blank? Try clean off the hot shoe contact and the dedicated contacts with an ink eraser. It may be that there is gunk/corrosion of the hot shoe contacts on the body. If it is not a dedicated flash you have to set the camera to the flash sync speed on manual. On the model it would be something like a 1/60th of a second. Is the flash hot shoe cracked?

I HAVE AN OLD PENTAX ME SUPER 35MM CAMERA AND HAVE BEEN GIVEN A HANIMEX AUTO ZOOM F/80-200MM LENS BUT NEED AN ADAPTER RING TO FIT BOTH TOGETHER.COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHICH ADAPTER I NEED AND IF POSS...

You don't need an adapter ring, you simply need the correct lens. Like many aftermarket lenses, the Hanimex was made in a number of different versions to fit many different camera mounting systems.

Your camera accepts lenses with a Pentax K bayonet mounting, so the fix is to sell your lens (it's not worth very much though) and buy another which also shouldn't cost very much. You can even get them for free simply by asking on FreeCycle, it's where virtually all of my film camera equipment has come from.

It *might* be possible to get an adapter, but it depends entirely upon which mount the Hanimex currently has (you didn't say, and it's not always obvious just by looking at the lens), and very few can be adapted to a K mount. Those that do will lose automatic aperture coupling, making the lens and camera rather awkward to use, and the coupling will likely cost more than another similar lens in the same zoom range.

The plastic flash mount has developed a crack as the flash unit is quite heavy - can this be repaired or replaced?

you can try super glue as long as the contacts are good. the hot shoe can be replaced with a good used one as no new parts are available. this could be expensive so get a cost estimate first.

My pics come out half black when I use the X-370 flash

motley45

this happens when the shutter speed is not correct. set the speed to 1/60 sec.
if the X-370 flash is new it may not be compatible with your camera. with the flash turned on it should set the shutter speed automatically to either 1/60sec or 1/125sec. looking in the finder the shutter speed should not change to various amounts of light. if the shutter speed changes with the flash turned on it is not dedicated to your camera.

You don't need anything special. Just buy a flash with a hot shoe.

Want to buy a flash

Sunil, there's a huge array of flashes that will suit that camera.
What you have is one of the old-faithfuls of the camera world. Not over-the-top glamerous bits, just basic necessary features that work well, and that camera will go for a long long time.
The hotshoe, the 'slide' on the top of the camera that accommodates the flash, is NOT a 'dedicated' shoe which means there is no auto or specific links between the flash and the camera.
You need to talk to someone over the counter because models of flashes are changing every day and I do not keep up to cover them all.
What I would be asking for is firstly, a hotshoe flash, then, an auto flash (this means the flash itself will meter the light output and adjust itself), then you want to buy a flash for its power output (guide number) don't waste your money on useless features for that camera, put the money into to flashes power, higher the guide number the better (GN20 is low, GN30 is good, GN40-45 is very high and likely a huge flash).
So, and auto flash, not dedicated, no fancy features, good GN (high 20s-mid 30s)
Also, don't buy brand names (ricoh, canon, nikon), pointless in this case. Look for generics, Metz, Sun, Sigma etc.

Eats batteries like thers no end !

Hello davidpritchie,  As I recall, this was Pentax's way of mating electronics with mechanical cameras and the success rate was quite good. The only problem with the Pentax Super Program was the rather complex electronic circuit board. Your canera could have a short, bad condensers, bad on-off switch, etc. You would need to do a circuit check from batteries to every electronic component using battery power. Wow - really expensive and time-consuming = complete stripdown and repair. The camera is over approximately 30 years old making it a classic. It is no longer in production meaning parts need to be cannabalized from another old non-working Pentax Super Program. The cost of repair would exceed the value of the camera. Look for another good used model or move on to a Pentax DSLR (digital SLR) camera as your tool. Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer on how to fix your problem.

Loading film in my vintage camera..help!

The "magic needles" while making the camera easy to load are about as intuitive as a dead skunk, I had a similar confusion when I got an ME Super. Put the film can in the left side of the camera back (the side with the little thing sticking out is the bottom, it looks upside down this way, but that is correct). Next push the film winder down, this will semi-lock the can into place. Now pull the film-lead across the camera and push it down between some of the white "magic needles on the opposite spool(push it in a bit so that it will stay). Next advance the lever; release the shutter. If the spool starts to turn you are doing it right. Now close the door and continue advancing and clicking until the little frame number window on top reads 1.

Added flash mount

LOLEE, I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT FLASH, BUT I HAVE SOME GENERAL INFO THAT MIGHT HELP. FIRST, IS THIS FLASH USING THE CAMERA " HOT SHOE " MOUNT? IF IT IS, ARE YOU SURE THAT THE FLASH IS FULLY INSERTED IN THE HOT SHOE? NEXT, IS THIS FLASH COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR CAMERA? YOU SEE, SOMEHOW THE CAMERA IS NOT GETTING THE INFO THAT THE FLASH IS CONNECTED. I WOULD CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS TO BE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT. HOPE THIS GIVES YOU SOME IDEAS TO WORK ON. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP, JUST REPLY.
