How did you "uninstall" it? Physically or just in Device Manager? If only in DM then just reboot and the drive should be recognized.

As far as the s'ware goes, just about any burning s'ware should work. I prefer Nero and you can usually d/l trials or "lite" versions for free.

Good Luck,

Trying to play a DVD and the computer says I dont have a DVD decoder. computer crashed a few months ago and that must have not got reloaded.

A DVD decoder is (usually) a separate program.

You can either reinstall it - it may be available on your restore disk or on the manufacturer's website - or, if that is not an option, you can try to restore the computer to an earlier date - on prior to the crash.

How to repair hard drive

Extreme slowness, repeated blue screen and noise or clicking are sometimes signs that your computer hard drive is about to crash. When you hear the sound of clicking, scraping or grinding, immediately turn off or shut down your computer. Doing so will prevent any loss of data.<br /> </li> <li> Power down and then power up. Sometimes, hard drive crashes can be easily recovered by doing a power shutdown of the computer. Then, after waiting for a couple of minutes, power it back up again. The initial hard drive crash may not be too serious, but if it happens often, start performing a full system backup, if you haven't been doing so, to be able to recover your data should the inevitable happen.<br /> </li> <li> <span> <a><img src="repair-hard-drive-crashes-1.3-120X120.jpg" /></a> jQuery(document).ready(function(){ jQuery('#jsArticleStep3 span.image a:first').attr('href','http://i.ehow.com/images/a04/8f/3a/repair-hard-drive-crashes-1.3-800X800.jpg'); }); PC cable or component connection </span> Ensure that your hard drive and other internal components are seated properly. If Steps 1 and 2 do not work, you may need to open your computer's CPU to check on some of the drive connections. Sometimes connections get dislodged, especially if you move your computer box often. The symptom will manifest as if the hard drive has crashed, giving you a "disk error" when you try to boot up your computer. First, turn off your computer and unplug it. Trying to burn some files to a memorex cd-rw. no computer will recognize that a cd is in the cd drive, even though one is in there. might be a formatting issue, but can't get any software to recognize cd,...

You might want to try the nero lite software. Most of these so called softwares do not reconize some burners. There is a site that tells you these problems. Try to google your (lets say hp cd) and then say EX: hp cd drive (try to use a model)..+not recognizing my burner, don't use spaces in the query.
Nero is a good burning software that enables most burners to be recognized.
If you have had Roxio .. this software is not very friendly to some of the burners out there. If you have this software get rid of it, uless you have the original disk or it come with oem on the restore disc.
PS Use Nero Lite it works the berries!

Cannot download anything

XP

Use system restore to a restore point before your computer crashed. AVG is one of the best antivirus programs out there. I even recommend it.

If your are using Vista, insert the DVD and boot from the CD/DVD. When you get to the install page select the repair your computer option.
From the options select System Restore.

On a personal tip:

I am currently using BitDefender Tolal Security and I am recommending this one also.
If you have formatted your harddrive, then you are SOL!!!

Emachine W6409 will no longer turn on

Your hard drive is probably crashing or has crashed. You need to start your computer with an XP CD and try to use the repair function. You'll be able to tell if the hard drive is still working or not once you run the repair function. Let me know what happens or if you run into any problems.

Cd burner hardware

First try to determine if it is a hardware or software problem by RESTORING you computer to a time before the problem stated.   Next purchase a cd headcleaner kit . Reasonably priced at most discount stores, and clean the heads ,if it is a hardware problem.  Next open the computer and see if all electricial conections are secure. After that , replace the drive.

Alright, if I understand you...You possibly lost the original operating system disc for your HP Pavilion, and your daughter used a Windows XP restore disc, and now it is asking you to register the software?

AND you also lost the set-up software for your Internet provider?
