The fridge make weird noises some days. Cooling is good, freezer also works well. My concern is if those noises are prelude to a major damage.

This really depends on the type of noise. If you hear a gurgle type noise while running this is usually normal from the refrigerant pumping through the tubing. Fan type noise blowing air in the freezer section is also normal but if it sounds link the fan is rubbing or grinding you need to look into that noise. Also a similar fan down near the compressor area in the lower back section. A low hum from the compressor while running is normal. If you have and icemaker--water running noise about once per hour for around 10 seconds is all normal while the icemaker is filling. Dropping noise from the cubes falling into the bucket is also normal about once per hour. Hope this helps.

Ice maker doesn't work.model kbfa25erss01

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Often when ice-makers stop working the real problem is that the freezer is not cold enough (It must be 14-16F for the icemaker thermostat to cycle) Check for signs of ice or substantial frost in the back of the unit / evaporator coil area. If you have ice / frost in this area you should do a manual defrost by unplugging the unit and directing an external fan into the freezer compartment for about 2 hours while it makes a water mess that will need to be tended too. Once the 2 hour thawing is complete wipe up the excess water and return the unit to normal service. If the problem was caused by excess ice it will operate normall for 2 - 3 days before ice production slows or stops totally. Should the manual defrosting correct the icemaker problem you most likely have and automatic defrost problem in the form of a problem with one of these 3 components:
1. Defrost control
2. Defrost heating element
3. Defrost thermostat

Having said all of that... You can use this manual to check out your icemaker:
http://adcxns1.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/8527f904cc8ea8cd85256b5800672333/$FILE/4322658A.pdf

Make sure to test the coils on the inlet water valve for continuity. If one of the coils is open *** must be replaced. The inlet water valve is NOT repairable.

Your water valve can be found here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/whirlpool-water-inlet-valve-item-number-ap4080917.aspx

Here is another link on how to test out the icemaker:
http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

The ice-maker thermostat must be at or belw 16 F for the above tests to work.
NOTE the freezer door LIGHT switch must be taped down also.

Before you get too deep into troubleshooting checkout the freezer door light switch first. If the switch is bad the freezer compartment light will not work and the ice-maker also will not work.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Ge side by side profile - icemaker makes loud humming buzzing noise. disconnected icemaker to make it stop - how to fix?

Hello,
A noisy refrigerator can be more than aggravating, it can also be a sign that something may be wrong with the appliance. With a little investigation, you will be able to find the cause for the noise so that you can determine how to rectify it.
Self-defrosting If you chest freezer is a self-defrosting variety, you will find that it has a fan on one of the inside walls that enables this process to take place. Open the door and check whether this makes the sound worse; if this is the case, the problem is likely to lie with the fan. Ensure that it is not blocked by any food items or ice and is running properly. Clear away any items that are blocking it and tighten any loose fasteners. The motor that runs the fan can also cause a noise if it is old or defective and is struggling to continue running, if this is the case, the motor will need to be replaced.
Door Seal Examine the door seal of the refrigerator to ensure that it is intact and has no defects. If there is a problem with the seal, it can prevent the door from closing properly which will force the refrigerator to work harder as it will also be cooling the air around the refrigerator. Replace the door seal and ensure that the door is able to close properly to see if this reduces the noise.
Element The wire element that is either located on the rear or the base of your refrigerator. The element can often become noisy after getting covered in dust and debris. Rectify this by switching off the power supply before vacuuming the element. Carefully use a cloth to clean any other surrounding components that are affected by stubborn grime.
Ice Build Up Where your refrigerator is unable to regulate itself, you may find that it can suffer a buildup of ice. When the ice become sufficiently thick, it will stop the freezer from being effective and will force the motor to work harder in order for it to keep working. Prevent this problem by defrosting your refrigerator on a regular basis or whenever it is required.
Condenser Fan The condenser fan is likely to be located at the rear of the refrigerator and can become noisy if it is defective or covered in dirt. After switching off the power supply, use a cloth to clean the blades of the condenser fan if you find that the noise is coming from this component.
Compressor The compressor is the black box that you will find on the base or rear of your refrigerator and is where the normal noise of the running the refrigerator comes from. The pipes and wires necessary for the refrigerator to work stem from this box and can become noisy if there is a problem, which is more likely with an older appliance. A defective compressor cannot be repaired so it will need to be replaced.
Take care in solving the problem....

Icemaker rakes not moving, though it is in the cycle and making a lound humm, grinding type sound (similar to when it does its normal ice rake cycle.

Normally, icemakers make very little noise. If it is in the middle of a harvest cycle and will not complete the cycle, remove the icemaker and look to see if an object some how fell into the ice cube mold area, preventing the rake from turning. If there is no obstuction, you will have to buy a replacement icemaker, as there are no replacement parts available. NOTE: Do not leave the icemaker in your freezer in the middle of a cycle for extended periods, as the mold heater would be "on" and adding heat to your freezer section the entire time, causing your refrigerator to work harder than normal, and costing more to run.

Whirlpool IceMagic Plus not working.

Pour about 2/3 cup of water into the ice maker . If it dumps the ice but doesn't refill , replace the ice maker . If it doesn't dump , and the cubes stay in the ice maker , replace the ice maker .

The switch on the icemaker for normal , runs the icemaker normaly . In the ice plus , a small fan comes on , blowing the inside air , over the ice maker mold , to help it freeze faster .

Icemaker continues to run water for several minutes

Change your icemaker module. It is getting stuck in the fill position. They are about 50 dollars or so and are held on with 3 screws normally.

This also happened after I changed the water filter. The small black rubber tube that fills the tray was plugged with ice. Instead of hot wash cloths I used a hair drier for a couple of minutes.
