Are the tweeters connected to a crossover?

I'd recommend a rockford fosgate 4 channel punch series. affordable, yet the quality is superd. i had a p450.4 run infinity kappa series seps in the front and a polk audio db691 ovals at the back. wired it up. it was LOUD. and the clarity was just amazing.

Change the radio if it looks worse than the speakers. Or, go buy some junkyard speakers and try them out. If none of this works, sell the car.

Chances are the problem is an amplifier or the radio itself.
Usually you would use a meter to see if you have power to the speakers and to do that you would need a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams.

Is there an in-line amplifier for the speakers in a 96 jeep grand cherokee limited w/ infinity gold audio system

Yes, the Infinity Gold series audio systems have a separate amplifier. In my '97 the amplifier is located under the drivers side rear seat.
Note that the amplifier is set to have speaker level inputs as opposed to regular level inputs. Both the amplifier and the speakers are NOT easily mixed and matched with after market components.

a good way to find out is, if your lucky- you still have the plug connected to the wires in your dash. Buy a wiring harness from a place like Best Buy. The harness, when plugged in to your factory harness will have its blue wire in line with the factory amp wire. There also may be a Blue wire with white stripe, this also needs to be connected to the blue wire if the above doesn't work. If you dont have a factory plug anymore- bigger problem. brian.small@bobstgroup.com

Hooking up system to a factory infinity sound system in a jeep grand cherokee.

Tap into a signal wire (rear speaker wire) using a line level converter.
These convert the High level speaker wire output into low level RCA output that is accepted by your amplifier.
c5b61ef.jpg Get a good one Pacific Accessory Corporation (PAC) sni-35 is the best IMO.
The TRUNK-LOC is the SAME as the SNI-35 - but it incorporates a voltage sensing input - so you dont need to run an additional turn-on wire. The voltage is sensed through the speaker wire - and it turns on the amplifier.

Then you will need a fused power wire from the battery,
Ground to chassis, and remote turn on lead (if you use a standard line level adapter).

An amplifier installation kit will give you everything you need to add 1 amplifier (except the converter)

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Factory amplifier

I have the file on my other computer - search other bulletin boards. Check with Crutchfield help desk.

Input wires are the speaker wires from the Amp head/receiver (so you can go to a BestBuy and ask them for the speaker wire colors). Black is ground. Yellow/black is main power. Blue/white is turn on wire. If in doubt take off the door panels and look at what color wires go to the speakers.
