Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5500 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Kodak Easyshare 5100

Bought re-manufactured. Used scanner once then a piece of tape showed up, sticking to the glass, holding back the scanner head. If I could figure out how to get under the scanner glass I could remove it. Any clue as to how to get it apart without damaging it?

I don't believe you will really have any luck trying to get that tape off of the scanner glass. This is an issue that isn't supposed to come up. You may need to have Kodak AiO Tech Support replace the printer for you. Their number is 1800 421 6699. With re-manufactured printers you should still get the manufacturer's warranty and they should be able to replace it for you.

If you really want to try to take the printer apart and you do not have a warranty, please leave me a message and I will be more than happy to post instructions for you about how you may be able to get into the printer.

The drivers that you need for devices such as printers, sound, video, scanners, ethernet cards, etc. Are usually contained on a driver CD that was shipped from the manufacturer with the device. If you do not have this CD, you will have to visit the manufacturer's website to download the drivers that you need. You need to go to http://www.kodak.com
Once you get to the website, look in the support section of the site and enter easyshare 5100 in the quick search box. Under search, in the select a category pull down box, choose downloads and drivers, and select the drivers you need for download.

What "Printer" to choose?


Your pronter should have come with a driver disk. You should disconnect your printer from the computer and run the installation from the disk. When prompted, connect the printer to the computer to complete the installation.

I got me a new kodak easyshare,and tried it out when i got a year ago,and i hooked it up,but it won't anything,i thought the ink was dried up,so i put all new ink in,but it still won't print anything,can...


Hi Ina,
Have you checked on the new cartridges to make sure there is no sticky tape over the print heads.
The manufacturers often put this tape over the print heads to prevent the ink from drying out or leaking out.

Printhead failure error code 3802


You need to contact kodak and ask for a replacement print head, explain the code and whats been happening.

They will probably tell you to download new drivers and wash your printhead ect ect but nothing that helps.

I had the same problem with the same printer.

I couldn't get Kodak to send out a printhead, so after weeks of messing around, I took it back for a refund.

If you do manage to get a new printhead here are the instructions on how to remove and replace it.

My Kodak 5100 Easyshare printer will not scan or copy


Call the Kodak customer service number and tell them that you need a new printhead, that's the device that your cartridges fit into.  They know that they have a problem but they will ask you to print a test sheet anyway.  They should ship you a new printhead within about five days - at no cost.  The printhead only seems to last about 4-6 months with my occasional use.  Tell them that they should replace the ink cartridges since you used probably used up the ones in the printer trying to do the diagnostics of cleaning the printhead.  They may not replace the cartridges but we should give them a hard time since it's their problem.

Can you scan old slide photos of a 5100 Kodak Aio?


You can set them on the scanner glass and press the scanner button one at time and then edit each one as necessary.

Printer head replacement


Hello junebug88,

Yes you need to recalibrate the printer after replacing the printhead. If it's a 5100 printer just press the "Photo" and the "Copy" button at the same time. It will calibrate the printer and after that you need to put the calibrated paper into the scanner glass and press start to start the media calibration sensor.

Line prints down page when you copy


No promise that this will work for everyone, but I just fixed one with the same problem. I figured either there was something on the scanner sensor itself or on the glass. If you look to the left of the large glass scan area, you will see a smaller glass strip. When you use the auto document feeder, the scanner stays under that piece of glass. To narrow the problem down, I tried copying a sheet on the large glass (not using the ADF). No line. So, it wasn't the sensor itself, it had to be something on the small glass. That piece of glass is held down with double-sided tape. Dell tries to keep dust and dirt out of the interior of the unit, but it isn't hermetically sealed. So, when something gets underneath the glass, it can stick and create a permanent spot where the sensor only sees darkness. First, try cleaning the top. Look very carefully at the glass about where that line is appearing on the paper (if the line is 2 inches from the side, look about two inches in on the glass. If you are lucky, there's some whiteout (famous for screwing up scanners) or something else stuck to the top. Clean it. Gently. If you scratch it, you're going to hate your scans and copies forever. If it's on the bottom, prepare to void your warranty if Dell finds out, but carefully and slowly pry the piece of plastic holding the small piece of glass out of the machine. It's just sticky tape, but it is on all sides of the piece and it covers the large piece of glass, too. That's where I started, using a very small knife edge to slowly pry up the plastic from the large piece of glass. Little by little, the piece came up. Again, be careful. If you pry too hard, you can break the large scan glass or the piece of plastic you are removing. Once it's out, don't get any dirt on the tape that held it in place - it needs to work when you finish. Now, gently clean the glass. I used a lintfree cotton rag and some glass cleaner. In about a minute, I was able to remove all traces of dirt from both sides and put it gently back into the printer. I haven't had a problem since and hope you have the same luck!
