It appears that the finish at the top of the steel drum has delaminated and causing rust to flake off of the drum into the water.

Look at the top edge of the drum next to the rubbr lip seal.

I'm afraid if I pull on the glazed paint I will expose more of the steel drum and rust will realy start to fall into the drum.

Unit is approximately 5 yrs. old. Used 3 to 5 times a week. Tide, Clorox and Downy only.

I f you use liquid fabric softener you will get allot of weird things inside the machine building up and eventually falling off onto the clothes.Rust will also have the same effect,if you can see it ,sand it off ,and cover the area you sanded with a sealer and let dry for 24 hrs. My WMS38 Hotpoint washing machine has the wash, rinse and spin and final spin lights on but nothing happens when the start button is pressed

Assuming tap water is turned on. If there is no water intake, the machine will not start. Check for the sound of water pouring in the machine. Check the water inlet filter, if it is jammed with foreign materials such as rust deposits, small stones, soil etc. Then check for the proper functioning of inlet water solenoid valve. Sometimes the valve gets stuck.

Whirlpool washer wet after spin cycle

Hello.

1 Measure your drainpipe to make sure it is no taller than 96 inches in height and no shorter than 30 inches; otherwise, it won't pump enough water from the washer, or the water may flow back to the washer.

2 Look at the dial selection to make sure you have selected the proper spin speed for the material you are washing. Choose the highest spin speed for that particular material. If you choose the "no spin" or "low spin" option, your whirlpool washer might not remove all of the water from your clothes.

3 Check if you have chosen the appropriate wash cycle for the type of material you are washing. The whirlpool washing machine drains quite a bit more slowly on the "Delicate" and "Hand Wash" cycles.

4 Check for excessive soap suds accumulating in the washing machine. whirlpool recommends you use only high-efficiency detergent in whirlpool washers. Other detergents can cause excessive soap suds, which could cause the washing machine to operate at a slower spin speed than selected, resulting in sopping wet clothes.

5 Add more clothing items to the washing load. If you wash only one large item, like a coat or blanket, the washer might become unbalanced and react by lowering the spin speed, causing the machine to not drain as it should during the spin cycle.

6 Examine your drain hose for clogs or kinks. Straighten the hose out to allow water to flow through. Eliminate blockage in the drainpipe or utility sink.

Thanks.

I have a 1988 Hotpoint top-load washing machine, Model # WLW 3500B. The water supply on the hot side appears to be constricted with very little flow. I checked the screen in the water supply hose and there...

Hi Eric,
Have you taken off the hose for the hot water at the back of the washer and then run it into a bucket to make sure the flow was good there?
If you have great flow there then the problem is in the washer...
If not then it is in your plumbing...you will need to track that down and fix it...
If it is in the washer then you probably have a problem with the fill valve or solenoid valve that opens to let the water in...they can either stick or get dirt lodged in them...either way replacement is probably the best option...

If your washing machine will not fill, only hot or cold will fill or is slow to fill then read these tips. I have covered many of the things that can happen in these tips...

My washing machine will not spin the water out of my clothes, what is the problem?

Have you washed any rugs lately that may have shed some material? Is it making any unusual noises? Is there any standing water in the drum?
Not sure what type of machine you have but it sounds like the pump inlet is either clogged or the pump is inop. With a little more information we may be able to narrow it down.

Frigidaire FWX233RES4 washing machine won't work

Sounds like there's something such as a small sock that has gotten sucked into the pump. This will keep the pump from spinning, cause extra noise, and the belts may appear fine but it may be stretched... if you're willing to deal with a little disassembly, unhooking hoses, spilling some water, you can probably handle this.... Good luck and let me know if you need any more assistance..

Hotpoint WMA50p won't spin

Had same problem today with our machine. Brushes looked OK (although one appeared a little shorter than the other).
After removing and re-fitting the brushes, motor worked fine - suggesting that it was the brushes afterall.

Now looking for replacement brushes

Brown spotting on washed clothes

chances are if you have eliminated anything thats got in by accident that the drum bearings are about to go, the drum bearings are protected by a water seal, this has started to leak and is now washing the grease out of the bearings back into the wash, you may also find a small amount of water on the floor, if you also remove the back and look behind the large pulley you may also see brown water marks running from the center of the outer drum

the next step will be a very noisy spin, like a rumbling noise

DRUM BEARINGS sorry
