Scanning a document

From the HP Solution Center, there is a question, "Where do you want to send the scanned images?" but in the "Scan to" field it doesn't allow me to type on a file name & the drop down menu is blank. I can't get past this window to scan a document

Thanks MM85. I went to the HP Support Center & had a live chat with a technician there. After a series of diagnostics, she arrived at the same conclusion. The software was corrupt & I'm reinstalling now. When I go to the HP Solutions Center and then click on Settings, then on Scan.....Setup, I'm informed that the "Photo and Imaging Software" does not exist. And yet when I did a Custom Install on the setup CD, that particular software program does not exist, or at least it is not discrete; it may be buried in one of the other programs but it did not install. I'll keep you posted if the reinstall does not work.

Problem solved!

I had tried before uninstalling from the Control Panel & reinstalling but that hadn't worked. HP's technician suggested uninstalling from the CD & reinstalling. I was able to get the destinatation list reinstalled & working fine now. It's my daughter's printer -- an HP Photosmart All-in-One printer -- and quite honestly I wouldn't buy one. In the end, it's still a junky inkjet printer!

#1 You can't typ in the "Scan To" box, only select from the drop down. If there is nothing in the drop down then it is probably a software install problem. I had to uninstall ALL HP software (including updates) from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, Disconnect the scanner and reinstall from scratrch.

I was working with a HP 1200PSC and HP SJ 4890, let me know what you have.

    aaical,

sounds VERY familiar. I do hope that works for you. HP did have excellent cust support and ended up sending me a 3 page email detailing the instructions since there was a lot of rebooting involved.

    Good Luck!

How do you scan an item to the computer

Use the scan features
Scanning is the process of converting text and pictures into an electronic format for
your computer. You can scan just about anything: photos, magazine articles, text
documents, and even 3D objects, as long as you are careful not to scratch the glass
on your HP All-in-One.
You can use the scanning features of your HP All-in-One to do the following:
● Scan text from an article into your word processor and quote it in a report.
● Print business cards and brochures by scanning a logo and using it in your
publishing software.
● Send photos to friends and relatives by scanning your favorite prints and
including them in e-mail messages.
● Create a photographic inventory of your house or office, or archive treasured
photos in an electronic scrapbook.
To use the scan features, your HP All-in-One and computer must be connected and
turned on. The HP All-in-One software must also be installed and running on your
computer prior to scanning. To verify that the HP All-in-One software is running on a
Windows computer, look for the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the system tray at the
lower right side of the screen, near the time. On a Mac, the HP All-in-One software is
always running.
Note Closing the HP Windows system tray icon can cause your HP All-in-
One to lose some of its scan functionality and result in the No Connection
error message. If this happens, you can restore full functionality by restarting
your computer or by starting the HP Image Zone software.
For information on how to scan from the computer, and how to adjust, resize, rotate,
crop, and sharpen your scans, see the onscreen HP Image Zone Help that came with
your software.
This chapter contains information on: sending a scan to and from different
destinations, and adjusting the preview image.
Scan to an application
You can scan originals placed on the glass directly from the control panel.
1. Load the original face down on the right front corner of the glass.
2. Press Start Scan on the control panel.
A preview image of the scan appears in the HP Document Viewer window on
the computer, where you can edit it.
For more information on editing a preview image, see the onscreen HP Image
Zone Help
that came with your software.
3. Make any edits to the preview image in the HP Scan window. When you have
finished, click Accept.
The HP All-in-One sends the scan to the HP Image Zone software, which
automatically opens and displays the image.
User Guide 31
Scan
The HP Image Zone has many tools that you can use to edit your scanned image.
You can improve the overall image quality by adjusting the brightness, sharpness,
color tone, or saturation. You can also crop, straighten, rotate, or resize the image.
When the scanned image looks just the way you want it, you can open it in another
application, send it through e-mail, save it to a file, or print it. For more
information on using the HP Image Zone, see the onscreen HP Image Zone Help.

I have the officejet 6310 but cant use the scan feature, how do I get it to work

this is how you use the scanning features of your printer.
To use the scan features, the HP all-in-one and computer must be connected and turned on. The HP all-in-one software must also be installed and running on the computer prior to scanning. To verify that the HP all-in-one software is running, look for the HP all-in-one icon in the system tray at the lower-right side of the screen, near the time.
NOTE: Closing the HP Windows system tray icon can cause the HP all-in-one to lose some of its scan functionality and result in the No Connection error message. If this happens, you can restore full functionality by restarting the computer or by starting the HP Image Zone software.
For information about how to scan from the computer, and how to adjust, resize, rotate, crop, and sharpen scans, see the onscreen HP Image Zone Help that came with the software.
Scan an original
Follow these steps if the HP all-in-one is directly connected to a computer through a USB cable.

1.
Load the original face down on the right front corner of the glass.
2.
In the Scan area, press Scan To . The Scan To menu appears, listing destinations, including applications, for anything that is scanned. The default destination is whichever one was selected the last time this menu was used.
3.
To select an application to receive the scan, use the arrow buttons to highlight it and then press OK or Start Scan . A preview image of the scan appears in the HP Scan window on the computer.
4.
Make any edits to the preview image in the HP Scan window. When finished, click Accept . The HP all-in-one sends the scan to the selected application.

Send a scan to an HP Instant Share destination
Follow these steps if the HP all-in-one is directly connected to a computer through a USB cable.

1.
Load the original face down on the right-front corner of the glass or, if using the document feeder tray, in the document tray.
2.
Press Scan To on the control panel of the HP all-in-one. The Scan To menu displays.
3.
Use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow buttons to highlight HP Instant Share .
4.
Press OK or Start Scan to select the destination and scan the image. The image is scanned and sent to the selected destination.
NOTE: If an original is detected in the automatic document feeder, one or more pages are scanned. If no original is detected in the automatic document feeder, a single page is scanned from the scanner bed.
NOTE: For Windows users, the HP Image Zone software opens on the computer, and the HP Instant Share tab displays. A thumbnail of the scanned image will display in the Selection Tray. For more information on the HP Image Zone, see the onscreen HP Image Zone Help that came with the software.

Stop scanning
To stop scanning, press Cancel on the control panel.
