Re: Blinking Yellow light on a HD 65" DLP Toshiba TV
I have a 56 inch tohiba DLP (56 HM 195). Replaced the bulb for the second time this year. last time only lasted 3 months. TV is tough to turn on. When I get it to turn on, and then shut it down, the yellow light blinks constantly for 5-7 mintues. Then it shuts down completely. Is the set overheating? There is nothing in the manual that speaks to this issue. thank you

The chances of the ballast failing are small on this model. Count how many times the Yellow light flashes before it pauses. Then google 57HM167 and the amount of blinks. ie " 57HM167 Yellow light flashes 3 times" That will tell you what you need to know. You can also post it here and we can help. I suspect you have a stuck fan(the fans are monitored to see if they are spinning. If not, they will not allow the TV to start up). Or you have the cover for the lamp not installed all the way. There is a switch that the lamp cover activates and the the TV will not turn on without it secured.
is it yellow as it blinks or red? if yellow check the kill switch located at the base of the lamp compartment cover ensure it presses the switch lever in order to ser the tv to standby mode the yellow blinking will stop and u will see a stable red ready for switching on
It should be due to a problem to cooling fan [DLP]. If you wish to get more details about blinking codes, surf the site linked here. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up previous posts there, either by type
in the model name to your set in its search box, or view it in Timeslide

You have done all you can do. If you had a power outage, when the power came back on a it surged and probably caused a Power Supply problem or something in the micro controller to fail. Either way it 's not good. I would call Toshiba and let them guide you to a Service Facility that can check it out. Depending on your Homeowners Insurance, repairs could be coverd or unit be replaced depending on cost to repair.
Sorry I am not able to help further,
The ballast is actually a switch mode power supply that powers the lamp. It is an
integral part of the light engine and is not replaceable. The light engine has a price
tag of $950. If you replaced the lamp with an after market one and not the Toshiba
lamp you can experience the same problem. Some of the after market lamps will
not fire at the same voltage as the Toshiba. The blue led will come on solid and the
yellow blinking. It will try to start 8 times then give up.
