I can hear my friend but he cant hear me..... swrs on both are fine,,, both base stations, im using a homebrew dipole and hes using an upside down whip stuck to a ceiling grid

First of all, how far are you from your friend? Second, he does not hear you but does he hear anyone else on his radio? If not, he might have a receive problem with his station but it's not his antenna. If he hears other traffic, your signal does not get out. If you don't have anyone else in the area, swap antennae with your friend and this will tell you if it's antenna related or radio related. Let me know what you find out or give me more info! Good luck!

Ranger superstar 33 no recieve

If you're still getting loud squelch noise but do not receive on any channel, you must check the RF from the antenna to the audio stage(not included). There must be more than just one RF stage in this radio. Let me know what you find.

Swrs go up with power on

Usually if a good match with amp not used but match goes up when amp is on, you are getting power or rf reflected back at the radio.

any jumpers in line for swr or power meter or especially the amp are critical and have to be precise lengths. A good noise bridge or even a grid dip meter can help here. At low how long the jumpers are is not so critical but as power goes up the slight error gets magnified.

Cant hear other radios if over 1/4 mile away

Are you using the noise blanker? Are you also finding noise on regular AM radio in vehicle? How good is the connection on the coax?

How good is the antenna ground to chassis? How good is the antenna?

If you address the various sources of general RF hash that would also aflict the AM reception in your vehicle, that would be the first thing to address. It would probably be a good idea to use some contact cleaner or LPS1 and spray down the switches and controls. I know on one of my own that the dirty contacts are enough to kill off reception.

If these things do not improve it, and you do not mind going into the radio- in the reciever stages are a number of 1N60 diodes, and they have a nasty habit of becoming leaky and noisy. Replacing them should help quite a lot if nothing up to this point has.

How do i cut a cb anntena to calabrate it?

If the antenna was designed to be used on the CB band, you should NEVER have to cut it. Calibration is a matter of moving the rod up and down in the post above the coil. There is a set screw that you loosen to accomplish this. Check the SWRs after each adjustment, and adjust until the SWRs at channel 40 and channel 1 are about the same.

If it's a 1/4-wave wip, you get what you get, there are no adjustments.

If you can't adjust it properly using this method, then you have some other problem; bad/poor ground and/or ground plane, bad coax, etc.

NEVER CUT (TRIM) AN ANTENNA THAT WAS DESIGNED FOR CB USE! Period! If it can't be tuned, you either have a faulty antenna, or some other problem. You need to find the problem and fix it, not mess with trimming the antenna...

Need to tune and peak my midland 1000 cb

sounds like a problem to me . I have one that was in fair shape that had the same symptoms , I pounded the crop out of it with a hammer and now it doesn't recieve anything . You can't find a service manual for it ,unless midland will sell you one but don't hold your breath . Remember a 26 oz. hammer works good but not the radio.

Can not recieve properly

Mounted on the circuit board is a tiny black encased rx/tx
changeover relay. It is almost in the center of the board and one third to the left (facing the controls) and may be etched MRATA.
I would be looking at that. These sets are subject to a lot of problems as they age and can be fixed with a BIG HAMMER!!
