When I got this company issued printer which has been used previously, it reads unlock scanner and press cancel on the screen. Well I have pulled the tab towards me as far is it can go and hit cancel, still it reads the same thing. I have turned it off, pulled the plug and turned it back on while the tab was in the unlock position and it still reads "unlock scanner and press cancel". Tech support for my company doesn't know what to do. What can I do?

do a reset on the printer. if you have a cancel and right arrow button on the printer 1. disconnect the power while the printer is on 2. press and hold the cancel and right arrow 3. while holding the buttons insert the power cable 4. release it after 30 seconds
it will reset the printer ...
after that if y0u still face the issue the printer has gone bad .. time for new printer

I just ran into this issue in teh last couple days. I went back and found a note from someone who owend it previously with instructions on how to clear this.
Press the menu button until you see the "reset". Press enter. On the screen when you see "Clear log/Queses" change the no to a yes with the arrow keys. Press enter and wait a few seconds. Press cancel and the machine will reboot and the hard disk will have been emptied.
Please ensure that the scanner is unlocked. The scanner lock is situated under the scanner bed towards the left. To unlock the scanner, please lift the scanner bed and push the red switch towards the back of the machine. Please try scanning again and let us know the results.
If the issue still persist, please follow the steps given below:
1. Press "Copy" button.
2. Press "Options" till the display reads "Set Defaults."
3. Use the "Arrow (right/left)" buttons till the display reads "Use Factory."
4. Press "Select."

This is a serious hardware issue where you will not be able to copy or scan from the printer. However, printing is still possible. The only possible steps for this issue are Connecting it to a wall outlet directly, and performing a semi full reset..
Disconnect the power cord from the product. Press and hold
while reconnecting the power cord to the product, and then release both buttons.
After performing this step, try making a copy. If the issue does not resolve, replacing is the only option available.
Hi, unplug the power cable Press and hold # and 6 on the printer
while keeping these tow buttons on hold plug the power cable back in .
when the screen goes off release the buttons and press the power button
to turn the printer on. it ll perform a semiful reset on the printer . if the issue still persists then unplug the power cable again

Darryl - lift up the top part of the scanner body (the silver part should separate from the black base) and let the kick-stand support the top part. Then look underneath the top part; there'll be a green tab sticking down from the top. If you look closely, you'll see little icons next to it that look like padlocks, one in an unlocked position and one in a locked position. Push the green tab away from you so that it lines up with the unlocked padlock, and that should do the trick.
