Question about HP PC Desktops

I recently bought a HP Photosmart C5100 All in One Printer. Is it true that if my yellow cartridge is out, that I cannot print in black? It usually pops up with "Your yellow is out" and gives the option to print only in black. It stopped giving me an option and won't print. P.S The black is not out

I paid for the printer along with a promise from HP that they would answer any problems I had. I certainly do not want to pay someone. I already have an IT dept at work who would gladly help me without charge. I don't understand how HP can presume upon me to pay for a problem that is theirs.

Buy a New model of printer... not that HP 4385... it so cheap yah...

I have a HP officejest 6500 wireless 3-in-1 and when i'm trying to print a document in black ink, it sometimes prints in black and sometimes in yellow. what is wrong and how can i fix it?


Printer cartridges are very sensitive, especially the contact points. Reseat the cartridges, clean the contact point with a soft cloth, reinstall and perform test print again. Just make sure that there's still an ink in the cartridges...

My printer is not printing anything orange, it comes out pink. Just put in new cartridges.


It sounds like your yellow is not printing correctly (probably a clogged nozzle). If your printer has separate cartridges, replace the yellow. If you are using aftermarket cartridges, you should try using OEM cartridges since they are spec'd to the printer. If you are usng aftermarket or reloaded cartridges, the ink may not be up to specs. In any case the yellow ink cartridge needs to be replaced. Make sure to run a deep cleaning and alignment after replacing the cartridge.

Only prints in yellow color


The printer must be able print all colors in order to execute the alignment. Part of the alignment process involves scanning printed colored (all colors including yellow) bars. See the web page below for a sample of the printout. I suggest that you clean the carriage and cartridge electrical contacts with a cotton swab moistened with water. If you still fail to get yellow, test the cartridge in another printer. ping me for the make of printer, anyways if it an HP series refer to the website below

Printer has full compatable cartridges but says all need replacing. Recently changed magental cartridge and printed one doc and then this happened.


check the reader connection where the printer reads the cartridge . Ink sometime spills on theis surface causing misreads by the printer , clean it with either a diaper wipe or some alcol wipe GENTLY on the connector/and cartridge connector and reinstall the cartridges.

Have just unpacked new HP Photosmart C4200 All-in-One Cannot get machine to accept cartidges which werre supplied with the printer


NOTE: The product must be on before you can insert the print cartridges.
  1. Open the print cartridge door. Figure 7: Opening the print cartridge door c00880893.jpg
  2. Make sure the print carriage moves to the right. If it does not move to the right, turn the device off, then turn it back on again.
  3. Open the packaging and remove the tape from both cartridges. Figure 8: Removing the tape c00880894.jpg CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored contacts or re-tape the cartridges.
  4. Hold the cartridges with the HP logo on top.
  5. Insert tri-color cartridge in the left cartridge slot and the black cartridge in the right cartridge slot . Figure 9: Inserting the print cartridges c00880895.jpgc00880896.jpg
  6. Push the cartridge firmly into the slot until it snaps into place.
  7. Close the print cartridge door.
Step eight: Align the print cartridges When a new print cartridge is installed, the product aligns the cartridge. Align the print cartridges at any other time by using the software installed with the product. Aligning the print cartridges ensures high-quality output. NOTE: If a print cartridge is removed and reinserted, the product will not prompt for an alignment. The product memory retains the alignment values for that print cartridge. Follow these steps to align newly installed print cartridges.
  1. When prompted, make sure that plain, white letter or A4 paper is loaded in the input tray, and then press the button next to OK . The alignment page prints.
  2. Lift the lid. Place the top of the alignment page face-down on the front, right corner of the scanner glass. Figure 10: Placing the alignment page c00880898.jpg
  3. Close the lid.
  4. Press the button next to OK . When the On button stops flashing, the alignment is complete and the page can be removed.
