Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Color fading in picture

I have a Phillips 60" rear Projection about 6-7 years old. Over the last 4 months the color has started to fade and keeps getting darker and darker. I thought the lenses were covered in dust so I removed the rear cover and cleaned them.

After trying it again, its still the same. It has to be some kind of "color tube" or something thats making it go dim.

Any suggestions? Other than the "well, lets replace this and see if thats the problem".

Thanks so much! Im not an electronics whiz but I think I can handle this. I really appreciate the repply and helping be save hundreds of dollars and possibly even me just tossing the T.V.

This problem has still cost me a new T.V because the wife wanted one but now I can save this one and put it in the kids rec room.

    Thanks!!

Screen is getting darker

The most likely cause is the blue and green tubes need to have the cooling fluid changed. After many years the blue and green get clouded with algae. The red tube won't have the problem due to the red spectrum kills the algae before it has time to grow.

The way to replace the fluid for is to completely remove each CRT from the set, remove the drain plug, drain the fluid out the tube, disassemble the lens, give it a good cleaning; then reassemble; add fluid; and reinstall in set. If you check with the site www.TvRepairKits.com they are working on a kit that includes the fluid and photo instruction guide.

60" Projection Tv - Approx 6 yrs old

Your CRT fluid needs to be replaced. After many years the crt cooling fluid gets a ton of alage built up in the tubes.  This will cause the screen to get a halo effect or get darker.

You only need to replace the fluid in the blue and green tubes.

Phillips 60 in. rear projection approx. 10 years old

This is a common problem with the older models. The opt chip fails. You can get a repair kit at www.magnavoxhelp.com. After a few months of getting smaller and smaller the audio and video will go out but the power light will remain lit.

UNABLE TO BRIGHTEN PICTURE

Your CRT coolant needs to be changed. Thats whats giving you the dim picture. You can also clean the projection mirror on the inside this often helps. But the coolant will need to be changed to get back the bright crisp picture. Hope this helps.
