Hi i have a 1991 Mitsubishi mighty max 3.0L 4WD. I just got it running today. Its making a ticking noise when idling. I think it was doing this before but im not shure. I dont want to damage anything. I just changed the valves and I might have put in a lifter backwards in the rocker-arm. But im not shure. If you have ANY information please let me know!! Thanks!

Thats what I thought, So the ticking is that a different problem? Im pretty shure it was doing it before i tore it apart also, Thanks for your help!

Can I just take the valve cover off to check the lifter? Or do I have to take off the throttle body and all of that?

Well the lifter is a problem, your better safe than sorry cause if you don't tear it back apart and check the lifters then all that work you did is gonna be history.and you will be doing it again, i'm sure you know this. do this before you try to solve the ticking.

Also, can I just take off the valve covers and take out the rocker arms to look at the lifters? Or do I have to take off the throttle body and all of that?
    Thanks for your help,nick

I have a 1991 mitsibishi mighty max and it blows thick white smoke when I start it, why does it do that. It runs good though.

you have water/coolant entering the combustion chamber. either the head is cracked or you have blown a head gasket.

1986 mighty max 2.0 engine makes a ticking noise most of the time. At higher rpms it stops. What could it be ? It kind of sounds ike a vaccum leak ? maybe ?

A ticking sound is usually a valve and if it stops at higher rpms I would guess it is oil related. Seems like the oil pump might be getting tired and not pumping enough at low rpms.

Torque specs for mighty max

Per my Chilton's manual tehe bolts should be (cold engine) 65 to 72 FT. Pnds., the cam shaft bearing bolts should be 8x25 = 15 - 19 Ft pnds and the 8x65 should be 14 - 15 Ft Pnds.

The sequence is as follows for the (10 ) head bolts:

7 - 5 - 2 - 4 - 10

9 - 3 - 1 - 6 - 8

I hope this may help,
Tom

Need the valve gap for 1991 mighty max

Does not have adjustable valves . It has hydrolic valve lasher's . they are spring loaded ( i believe ) . I just replaced them in mine . valve giude seal's where worn out causing it to smoke realy bad ( looked like a mosqito truck ) and the valves where ticking , due to the hydrolic valve lash adjuster's being worn out . They are about $ 8 - 10 buck's each at advance .
