Hi, Robert I will try to explain the best I can. There are many different ways the manufacturers build the heads and spools for grass trimmers. Remove the spool from the head of your trimmer. Some just pull out, while others have different ways and adapters that screw out, if you have never removed yours look in your owners manual or if you don't have a manual you will have to find the way you remove the spool from the head. When you remove the spool, remember which way it goes.back in. Once the spool is removed if there is still a small amount of line remaining observe the way it is held on the spool. If no line remains look at the bottom of the spool for an eyelet or holes right at the bottom or on the side. If you see an eyelet just tie the line to it. If there is nothing but one hole that means that with the right size of line it will go in tight to hold line. If 2 holes are present insert in one hole and out the other. If you have a 2 line trimmer then 2 holes means in one hole and out the other which makes sense. Whatever is the way to hold the line in, sometimes it just doesn't hold the line on once you start winding line on. There are a few manufacturers I find you can use on all spools and is easy.Take some packing tape or any kind of tape you want to use. Wrap around line then tape to bottom of spool, the easiest way to hold on and works on any make of trimmer. Look at the spool and there is usually an arrow on outside to give you the direction to wind. It is important how you wind line on spool, try to wind neatly like back and forth in even rows so that later the line doesn't get tangled up. But it is also very important not to twist the line. What I mean by that is the way the line comes off the package it comes in. Wind the line the same way it is wound on pack. I hope I am explaining it properly and that you understand what I mean. Put the spool and pack end to end and unroll the line out of the pack the same it is rolled in the package. That is to prevent the line from getting always tangled up and you having to remove the spool to get untangled. I think you probably get what I mean. Do not put too much line on the spool, leave about 1/4" from top of spool. Install the spool the exact same way it came off. I hope I have helped you and that you understand the way I explained it. All the best and good luck. I will gladly answer any other questions.

Stringing a husqvarna weedeater

The 125LD had a T25 bump feed trimmer head, depress with finger and thumb the tabs either side of the head, the base will then pull away with the white centre spool, take a lenght of 2mm cord, bend in the middle so as you have two equal lengths, hook the bent end into the cut a way in the spool and wind both lengths in the same direction as indicated on the spool, once you have enough cord on the spool secure the ends in the slots on the outer edge of the spool to stop it all un raviling, place the spool back into the spool housing, carefully place the cord through the metal eyelets, push the assembly back into the upper housing clicking it back into position.

I need to know how to replace the nylon cord in my FS 55RC trimmer.

Hi s cowdroy, I will try to help you out. You have to remove the spool from the head. There are different ways this is done depending on the brand. At the bottom you will see different systems, that you either turn or just pull out. You will have to try just pulling or turning and also some might have left hand threads. As you remove the spool remember how everything goes back in. When you look at the bottom of the spool, different brands have different ways of attaching the cutting cord. One will have an eyelet, another will have holes that the cord fits snugly, etc. Some manufacturers use tape, and that is what I use on every machine I restring. I use packing tape, I wrap it around the cord and then tape it to the bottom of the spool. On the spool will be indicated the way to wrap the cord. When wrapping the cord do it in neat rows to prevent tangling that you will have to clear all the time. Something else to prevent tangling, is to wrap the same way you unwrap it, in other words put the spool and the roll of new cord end to end, and as you roll it on the spool you unroll it from the new roll. I hope you understand what I mean. Do not put too much cord on the spool, leave about 1/4" from top. To install the spool make sure it is the same way you took it out. Insert the cord through the eyelet of the head and install the spool in the same way it came out.
Hope this is helpful. All the best and good luck. Denis.

How do I change the pull starter cord?

If this is like most simple mowers (using briggs & stratton engines and some others) the recoil starter is in an assembly which is spot welded onto a metal cover. You may have to first remove a plastic shroud (which might include the gas tank - which should have a shut-off valve). Then you should be able to remove the metal cover that includes the recoil starter. When you get that off you will see a plastic spool that holds the cord. This spool is probably held in place by a couple of metal tabs that are bent down. Bend those tabs up with pliers. Underneath the spool is a spiral spring that provides the recoil. Take careful note of how this all goes together. Buy a new cord (available by the foot at a hardware store) and wrap it around the plastic spool. Use a piece of tape to hold the end of the new cord above the spool so you can thread it through the hole in the metal housing later. Put the spring and the spool in place, then wind the spool to put tension on the spring - about 5 turns in the direction that would push the string out through the hole. Once you have the spring "wound up" remove the tape and thread the end of the cord through the hole. Now bend those metal tabs back down. Put the handle on the cord end (or tie a knot) to keep the spring from pulling the end of the cord back through the hole. Reassemble the rest and you are in business.

Pull cord pulled out from machine, how do i replace and is there a spring invoved in the replacement?

Yes, there is a spring, but it's not too bad to work with, but there will be a fair number of screws to remove. Broken pull cord on my manual start Troy-bilt Pony tiller - is this an easy do-it-yourself project?

It's definitely do-it-yourself in that no special tools or skills are required, but it can be a little tricky. You can see that the the recoil starter is in an assembly which is spot welded onto a metal cover. You have to remove the entire metal cover that includes the recoil starter. There may be 6 to 10 screws to remove to do that. When you get it off you will see a plastic spool that holds the cord.
