Question about Dell 1600n All-In-One Laser Printer

Clicking/Rattling of Upper Rollers after Paper Jam

I had an envelope get stuck upon exit of my Dell 1600n printer. It was sticking out the front about 2/3 of the way. So I pulled it forward to remove it. Since then, the top rollers rattle/click every time they spin (power on and printing). I've searched the Internet for an internal diagram, to no avail. I am not sure what was pulled loose or out of place, or how to stop the noise.

Any advice would be appreciated...if I knew what it was supposed to look like, I might understand the noise better.

Thanks,
Carmen

Thank you Coss71...by opening up the back as you suggested, I found the cause of the problem. I knew it wasn't the fuser (the rollers are above this area), and when I looked in back, I saw the roller on top had popped out of its "track." I popped it back in and the noise went away.

    Thanks for your response.

I would suggest changing the fuser assembly. It sounds like you chipped a gear in it. To get to the fuser, remove the 4 screws on the back, and slid the plastic cover out of the way. Once in there, you will be able to see the other 2 screws that hold the fuser in place.

Frequent paper jams on a Dell 1600n AIO, sometimes doesn't grab the paper from the tray (not really a jam, just need to open and close tray), sometimes gets caught halfway through the path -- need to open...

This could be caused from the papers you use at times(weight). Call on a Dell representative to check it out for you if you bought it from a Dell shop.

Thanks

#10 envelope stuck in machine

Please try these steps:

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button.
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

Printer jam upon exit

Check the paper output area ( around the output rollers) for a small piece of paper. You may need to disassemble the output paper assembly, and clean the rollers, or replace the paper output assembly.

In reality, what you have is one part of the printer trying to "push" the paper, while another part of the printer is trying to "pull", resulting in the wrinkle.. The problem may also be with a paper output sensor being stuck, which is why I suggest you check thoroughly for paper scraps in the output assembly.

Paper jam on back rollers

If it jams every time while printing only 1 page and stops just past the exit of the fuser unit, it is most likely that there is a problem with the paper exit sensor on the fuser unit. We have many of the 1700N printers and have seen several times that the paper exit sensor actuator arm gets broken off when removing a paper jam.

Dell 1600n Will only print with sheet feeder open

Rollers may be worn out and not properly grabbing paper or a gear may be broken. You should be able to inspect by lifting cover to feeder and watching as paper is pulled through.
