Frigidaire Class Action

Hi Mommydear:
I read your posting on this site with interest, since my law firm is currently prosecuting a proposed class action against Frigidaire (Electrolux) concerning their washers. We would be most interested in hearing more about your experience. My name is Mark Tamblyn and I may be contacted at 916-568-1100 or by email at

I have a Frigidaire LTF2940ES1 and the mold/mildew smell is about to drive me crazy. My towels stink, the blankets stink and the room stinks. I bought this machine in January of 2006 and have been sorry since day one. Please someone tell me who or what number/name you contacted to get the boot replaced. PS. The handle just fell off too and the area between the clear plastic door window has mold growing in it too!

    email Thanks

I purchased the Frigidaire front load washer GLTF2940ES in May of 2006. Some time later I smelled a funny odor from the machine. I discovered that water was collecting inside the gasket around the door on the front of the machine and mold was growing there. I cleaned it out the best I could and called the appliance company where I purchased the machine. It was just over a year after I purchased the machine and the appliance company would not do anything, not even send out a serviceman. I wrote an email to Customer Service at Frigidaire and told them there was a design flaw in the machine because water was collecting and not draining out and mold was a problem. Their customer service department responded and were polite but did nothing they said because I had a 4 yr service contract with my applicance company. I called the appliance company again and they said this problem was not covered under my service contract and it was older than one yeard old so I should wash out the machine with bleach and use bleach frequently. When I cleaned it with bleach, the rubber gasket was still black and I was unable to get the black stains out. Now whenever I do a load of wash, I use my hand to open the gasket and use a sponge to soak up all the water that remains in the gasket. I also have to leave the door of the washer open all the time so air will dry out the machine. This is totally unacceptable, but I am stuck since I can't afford to replace a machine that is only a little over 2 years old.

I purchase a Frigidaire Washer LTF2140ESO in July 2005. I also purchase the pedestal for it to sit on. When the washer spun the whole house would shake. Could only use it on med spin. Next I had the moldy clothes and slim build up in the rubber door gasket. I had to use a turkey baster to siphon the water out, leave the door open , and routinely wipe slimy mold from the gasket. Still had moldy clothes. I am using the past tense because this disgusting machine is finally unrepairable. It stopped spinning on July 6, 2008. A repair tech has been out 4 times. Replaced PCB main (x2), motor control, and the motor. Still does not spin. I am at a loss of $700 for this product. I would definitely want to join a class action suit. It is way overdue.

I have the same mold issue. The black marks do not come off, I have tried bleach as well as the Affresh tablet to clean front loaders. I also have a new complaint, the front plastic panel near the soap dispenser has several cracks. They are now spreading across the front of the machine and the pieces are crumbling. I am very angry because my machine is only 2 years old!!

  • klotz Sep 14, 2008

I want to add my issues with this machine. I bought it on 4/16/06 along with an extended warrantee. Since then the machine has never run properly and finally gave out. It took over two months, dozens of phone calls between the warrantee people and repair people, and $685 later in repair costs, despite the warrantee (they don't cover work for stackers, since the warrantee clause states that the machine must be 'accessible'), before I finally had to replace the machine, less than two years after it's purchase. Buyers beware!

  • bgstone40 Dec 06, 2008

I agree with everyone's post. I bought this washer and the matching dryer GLGQ2152ES in Julu of 2005. Both units have had the plastic strip at the top front crack and break off. Of course my extended warranty ran out before these issues showed up. I also have had the awful smell come from all of my towels to the point that they have to be washed multiple times with tons of fabric softener so they don't smell musty. It is ridiculous that these units have not been recalled!

  • pdbettencour Dec 07, 2008

I have the same exact problems, mentioned here, with this exact same clothes Frigidaire model # GLTF2940ES Front Load Washer.
    No Spin and mold.
I purchased it for approx $650 back in 2006 and have had these problems from the start, which have progressively worsened and now it doesn't spin at all and we can't even use it.
I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone with a solution and what can be done with this since I've suffered such a loss since my purchase.
Also, is there a Class Action Suit going on? If so, how do I get involved?
    Thanks so much!

I have the same problem mold on the rubber ring and the plastic cracking at the control panel on both washer and dryer.

I hope something can be done and done soon.

I have a fridgedaire front load washer and have the same moldy smell problem. The washer smells like mold all the time and so do the clothes. I understand there is a class action suit about this and would like to know who to contact about it. They are an expensive purchase and I can't afford to replace them.

  • gracieflower Dec 24, 2008

I have the same problem with my Frigidaire washer. I have to clean the rubber ring every wash with a little bleach. I am sure eventually this is going to destroy the rubber. I would also like to hear about this class action law suit.

I have a Frigidaire front load washer FTF2140ES3. The bellows is full

of black mildew stains as water collects in there and it doesn't drain

well. There is no mention of a need to wipe down the bellows after

each use, which would be the only way to prevent this. It would be

difficult to get into the crevasses, but I have a bad mold allergy. I

would get terrible sneezing attacks, which I could only relieve by

going outside my house. It took me a very long time to identify the

source of the mold. Inside the washer bellows. At this point (2 -3

years), Frigidaire says it is out of warranty, the part costs $150.

The old one won't clean up. I've tried everything. Even if I buy the

new part and install it, how long before the problem returns?

  • pllamar Apr 24, 2009

i have the same model with the same problem. i have had my washer repaired several times with the dail knob stripping out, the tub not spinning, the door latch replaced 3 times and the rubber rim collecting water along with everything else. my door locked and i can't bet my clothes out. FEED UP

  • lisalise Apr 27, 2009

I have what appears to be black mold growing in the drain area of my front loading Frigidaire washer. Clothes smell of mold and mildew. I beleive it has aggravated my allergies and my roommates asthma. It cost too much to have this problem!

  • rlhanks426 May 03, 2009

OK, I have never had the mold problem but I have had many other problems with this unit( which isn't a cheap model compared to the top load). First the wife washed a standard blanket that one of the kids had an accident on, after that it wouldn't spin or move, just fill up with water. so when I opened it up the belt was off and the lower shocks were both broke in half. Replaced the shocks and put the belt back on. Second when I tested it the belt wouldn't stay on and I noticed water dripping from the center where the drum sits on the shaft. OK take the unit completely apart, drum assembly and all and replaced the bearings and seal. Put back together and the unit is quiet again(well compared to when the bearings were shot and we didnt know about it). Before I put the unit back together I noticed that the unit that holds the inner drum to the outer drum was corroded and will need to be replaced soon. OK that major repair lasted six months, I now have to do the repair all over again. I purchased this unit in summer of '05 and has been the biggest lemon ever. There are many post on the internet on how this is a common problem and how to fix it, which helps, but electrolux should not be allowed to profit off of this unit and all these should be recalled.

I have the same washer-Frigidaire's FTF214OES, three years old. Have had control panel replaced twice. The rubber boot fills with water, is covered in mold/mildew. Clothes smell aweful and sometimes it spits mold onto my clothes, ruining them. Have had many conversations with my warranty company and Frigidaire. Both say they don't cover mold issues, yet that is not written anywhere. Asked for them to send me in writing where that is stated, of course, to no avail. Repairmen come out and tell me that it is a design flaw but cannot write that as a repair finding because they will lose their jobs. Offerred to replace the moldey rubber boot with a new one, but the new one has the same drain holes that are too high to drain the water completely so I will still have the same issue of mold.

  • dmac93 May 19, 2009

I have the same mold issue. I clean it with bleach, but I presume that this will ruin the rubber. The front panel is cracked and the handle just broke. I am interested in the class action.

  • choneycutt04 May 11, 2010

I too have had about 5 or 6 repairs in the last 4 years since I bought this washing machine and it is broke yet again and now out of warranty. I would certainly be interested. Mine also stinks on the inside too. Not sure about mold, but certainly does stink. Now it won't spin again. AAARRRRGGGHHHHH. I hate this washer!!!!!

  • Latrice Jun 02, 2013

I have both the Frigidaire washer and dryer and have been experiencing problems with both of these appliances. I also wish I had never purchased either. The dryer less than 3 months after purchase started malfunctioning with an E64 error message, I had just spent a lot of money buying these products and was in the laundromat drying my clothes!! Unacceptable! I now also am having the mold issue and all of these problems within a year of buying... I am so frustrated and will never purchase a Frigidaire product again!

  • TMateria Sep 12, 2013

I also purchase both the Frigidaire washer and dryer. Less than 3 months after buying the dryer was malfunctioning with an E64 error message.. unacceptable!! Here I had just made a major appliance purchase and was sitting in the laundromat thinking how ridiculous this was! The appliance store replaced the dryer and I started experiencing the mold issue with the washer! And believe me I have done the bleaching cycles over and over and my clothes and towels still stink! This was the worst and most regrettable purchase I have ever made... My dryer( with the new heating element) is now malfunctioning AGAIN and all of these issues occurring less than a year and a half after purchasing!!! I will never buy another Frigidaire product again! EVER! I am so unhappy with my washer/dryer :(

HELLO - I purchased this washer in 2007 and since then have had a lot of problems with staining of my sheets, towels and other things. It beats up my clothes - the delicate cycle is anything but. It sounds like a helicopter taking off in my laundry room and spins out of control on delicate. I've been looking for a washer to replace it and now I have such a bad taste in my mouth about this HE washer that I am considering buying the old fashioned kind. Honestly, other than the water efficiency, I don't see what the real need is to purchase these expensive washers.

LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN WHEN YOU DONT USE IT. The washer door forms a tight seal so water doesn't leak all over the floor. If you leave the door open a crack when you aren't using it then the water has a chance to evaporate and will generally not cause mold to build up. ALSO, check to make sure you are using HE detergent and also that you are not using too much of it. You should be using around 1-2 tablespoons at the most.

Copy and Forward this message to all people owning a KIA
If your Kia motor has a timing belt, but the 8th digit in your VIN number has a 6, then you may be part of a class action lawsuit.
Obtain a picture of the VIN number (seen through driver's side windshield) and a picture of the left side of the engine.
In an email, type exactly the following in the Subject heading of the email or your email will not reach its recipient (no variation allowed)
Class Action KIA Timing Belt VIN
Then attach your 2 pictures in the email.
Then briefly explain any losses you incurred because of the wrong engine being installed in your vehicle and having a timing belt instead of a timing chain as was indicated.
Also include any references (internet, repair manuals...) that provides the information relating the 8th digit to a timing chain.

F1 warning light keep coming on at the start of the washing cycl

Aside from replacing the brain with another one identical to the one that died, which will most likely die again, you can do what the people mentioned below are doing.

Quoted from another site:

If you own a Kenmore Oasis (built by Whirlpool) or Whirlpool Cabrio washer, and you are getting the "F1" error code...or similar codes, and nothing you do fixes the problem, here is what you should do.
Join the class action lawsuit, and sign the petition.
Here is the class action law suit info. Remember, these Kenmore Washers (built by Whirlpool) are basically the same machine as the Whirlpool Cabrio:

My GE washer instructions said to leave the door open or mold could form inside. IMO (and many sales reps I spoke with) Frigidaire is not a good brand. And being one of the cheaper brands, you get what you pay for. Good luck with your law suit.
