Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Troubleshooting white out issue-aperture

I have been having a couple issues w/ my Rebel xt....

1st is that I get err 99 when using my 300 zoom & it is extended & sometimes @ other inopportune times

2nd is that i am shooting on automatic mode (green box) & autofocus & pics are whiting out; typically outside. I have had my camera for years & never experienced this issue before. I thought it was because I was shooting by a lake one time, but it happened again, just taking photos of a house at midday. I tried changing the av to allow less light in, but didn't work

I have a Canon EOS Rebel XT purchased in 2006. I keep seeing the message error 99 repeated over and over Thank you Kim Atkins

If I remember correctly, this message is caused by a loss of communication between the camera body and the lens.
It could be dirt related, or even wear related. Some are not !

There are quite a few discussions about this on the net.
I suggest reading some of the entries.

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera body where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Err 99 shows up on screen when I try to take a photo

This is usually a lens error. Take the lens off and clean the contacts on the camera body and lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Canon Rebel xt does not accept CF cards for no apparent reason

It sounds like a bent pin in the CF slot. This is not a do it yourself fix. Take it to a repair shop.

Err 99

If you're using a dslr type camera....with removable lenses.....try cleaning the electrical contacts, between the lens and the camera. remove the lens and use a pencil eraser...being careful not to get any debris in the camera or lens. dirty contacts cause a lot of problems. hope this helps.

''err 99'' code appearing fairly often recently on Canon Rebel XT

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

Err 99 on canon rebel xt 350 d

The Err 99 problem occurs due to dirty contacts between the body and the lens. I recommend cleaning the contacts. You can then turn Off the camera and then remove and reinstall the batteries to reset the camera to get the problem fixed.

Canon Rebel Xt EOS Err 99

Error 99 is a "catch all" error that has several causes. It could be that your battery is not fully charged, especially if it is a generic, non-Canon battery. Charge for at least over night even if the charger says it's full. If that's not the cause, switches inside the camera will have to be cleaned by a repair shop.

Error 99

I get error 99 sometimes on my 20 D but it?s usually to do with a lens that is attached. Sigma lens have been known to cause error's. If it's not that or dirty contact on the lens then it could be a more serious problem. I would at least check it out with a canon dealer/repair centre.
