If the installation cd is getting an error message, it's better to manually configure it.

since you are using a cable internet, you can start by doing a power cycle. turn off all the devices first. then turn on the modem, wait for the lights on the modem to power on. then turn on the router, then the computer

if power cycle will not give you internet access. follow the steps below.

- access your router's setup page. open a web browser and type by default there's no password
- you would be prompted with the setup screen, go to connection type under internet wan
- follow the instruction or if you have the option, just set it to automatic configuration-dhcp, then clone the mac address
- after that, click on home, internet status should be set to connected

hope this'll help you and just ask me if you have other concern

you don't need to have internet connection to access since it's the address of your router adn it's internal to your router. it could be that your computer is not getting a valid ip address or the router's ip address was changed into something else when you run the cd. when accessing the router's page, the computer should be directly connected to the router not to the modem ( i assumed that the computer is already connected to the router when i gave you the instructions above).

if you would still like to try configuring it. you need to reset the router first for a fresh start. locate a button on the router that will say reset and press it for like 30 sec then perform a power cycle.

one more thing, you need to have internet connection first from your cable modem in order for the router to work.

    hope this helps.

Installing your Belkin router is still possible even without using its Setup CD. You can set up your router manually through the web-based setup page of the router.

Perform the steps below to set up your Belkin router through the web-based setup page.

NOTE: images may vary depending on the router model or computer you are using.
Power cycling the modem and router
Step 1:
Unplug the modem and router from the power source.

Connect the modem to the WAN or Internet port of the router.

Step 3:
Power ON your modem first, then your router by plugging them back to the power source.
Manually setting up your router
Step 1:
Connect the computer to one (1) of the Ethernet ports of the router.

Step 2:
Launch a web browser and enter "" in the address bar.

Step 3:
Click Login.

Leave the Password field blank and click Submit.

Step 5:
Under Internet WAN, click Connection Type.

Belkin Wireless G Router causes loss of internet connection

Does your router have one LED lamp for each "wired" port?
If so, does unplugging the Ethernet-cable (the one that connects to your desktop PC) cause the lamp to go off?
Does reconnecting that cable cause the lamp to go on?

Also, on your desktop computer, there could be a lamp right beside where the Ethernet-cable connects into your computer.
Again, disconnect the cable, and reconnect the cable, to see if that lamp goes off/on.

Have you tried a different cable?

Do *NOT* connect your desktop computer to the 'WAN' port on the router -- connect it to any of the "LAN" ports.
