I have a new-in-box Konus Motormax 130mm 1796 I got about 3 years ago (it was described as a spotting scope) from a supposed Konus dealer on ebay. He then sold me a $100 Celestron tripod for it claiming he would send a mounting adaptor....But he then slithered off into a crevice somewhere. Is there such an adaptor? If so, where could I get one? Thanks.

Contact a regular DEALER for this scope and see if they have one. You may just have to look in a well stocked hardware store for something you can use to mount the scope on the tripod.

Only a dealer that handles this scope will have a manual. This dealer sells Konus scopes:

Is this a MEADE scope or a KONUS?

Only a Konus dealer will have a Konus manual-- however Meade has a list of all their manuals on this web site--

http://www.meade.com/manuals/index.html Look under the 4.5 inch REFLECTOR heading for one that is similar to your scope. They all assemble and are used in a similar fashion.

How to align pointer? which lens tu use? no zoom?

During the daytime point the scope at a distant object like the top of a telephone pole. Without moving the scope adjust the small finder scope crosshairs so they point to the same spot.

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the diagonal. This is your lowest magnification. Practice focusing on a distant object using this low power eyepiece.

I am struggling to set the telescope us as the

Is it like THIS telescope?
http://www.opticsplanet.net/konus-knonusmotor-130-telescope-1786.html

The focuser mechanism is at the FRONT end of the telescope. The Mirror is in the back-end or bottom of the telescope. This scope is on an equitorial mount, which means it must be POLAR ALIGNED in order to work. You can get a rough polar alignment by using the star Polaris (the North star).

We never recommend an EQ mount to beginners. Polar alignment introduces an additional beginner frustration with using the telescope. Read these web sites to get an idea of polar aligning a telescope.

Their are TWO knobs on the telescope that control Right Ascention and Declination movement. Declination IS your latitude, so the angle must be set to where you live. I am at latitude 32 degrees N --- so the angle is 32 degrees, which is where Polaris is above the horizon.
