Windows Vista Missing (D) Drive and (E) Drive?

I have had my computer for over a year. It's a Compaq computer. It came with the Windows Vista operating system. It had been working fine. It had updated and I restarted my computer. When I restarted it and it came back on it is giving me the (error 39) for my E drive and when I click on My Computer it's only showing me my C drive and no longer my D drive. What do I do?

1. Right click My computer and select Manage.
2. Click on Disk Management.
In the right hand window you should see all of your drives with their drive letter.
If you see a drive listed but without a drive letter that is likely to be your “missing” drive. To gain access try the following:
1. Right click the drive and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
2. Click the Change button.
3. Select a Drive letter and click Ok.
Now check My Computer for the drive.

My compaq laptop doesn't work. When I put ON the power "NLTRD is missing" that's what appears. What will I do to fix this problem?

Solution for NTLDR is missing in windows XP and in Vista

If you are usiing WindowsXP, follow below steps

Using Windows recovery console.

The Windows 2000 and Windows XP CDs supplied by Microsoft has a tool called the Recovery Console which can be used to repair errors that prevent Windows XP from starting using the command line. OEM versions of Windows XP, including computers that were supplied with Windows XP preinstalled, may not have this utility.

This problem may occur if the basic input/output system (BIOS) on your computer is outdated, or if one or more of the following Windows boot files are missing or damaged:

Ntldr
Ntdetect.com
Boot.ini

Check your drives for floppy,USB storage devices,CDs and any other bootable media.Because sometmes these things makes problems. Then go to BIOS and do the BIOS settings to boot from the source where the OS is installed.

1: Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.

2: When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.

3: Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.

4: Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key(most of the cases it will be "1" only) and pressing enter.

5: You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.

6: From the command prompt, copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from the i386 folder of the CD to the root folder of the hard drive. In the example commands given below, C: is the hard drive and D: is the CD-ROM drive. You will need to change the drive letters if appropriate:
COPY D:I386NTLDR C:
COPY D:I386NTDETECT.COM C:

Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

If you are using Windows Vista, follow below steps

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.

2. Press a key when you are prompted.

3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.

4. Click Repair your computer.

5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.

6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.

7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.
You can use bootrec /fixmbr or bootrec /fixboot or bootrec /rebuildbcd according to your situations, for more info about bootrec.exe, see below link

Hi i have compact armada 1700 and it is missing operating system what is the problem

Hi

If it is missing the operating system then you are missing windows i.e. Windows XP, Windows Vista etc etc

You will need to purchase a CD from any reputable PC shop or online, and then install onto your PC

Wont boot up

If you have a windows vista disk handy this is how you repair this.

Boot from the Windows Disk

Select your language > Next

In the lower left hand side click

Repair your computer.

If you do no have a Windows Vista Disk you will need a computer with a working CD burner to download and burn a Windows Vista Recovery disk with. You can find one for your computer here:

Installed a new hard drive (old one missing) and tried to load windows vista and nothing happens

You might need to go into "setup" when your computer boots up and change the boot options so that it boots first from CDrom and hard drive second. This should allow it to boot off the Windows CD. That will start your Windows setup program.

Bios says no ide device found (hard frive missing?)

If the BIOS is not detecting your hard drive, then there are two possible suspects here. Could just be your hard drive or it also be your motherboard.

If you have already reseated your hard drive and memory and the symptoms are still the same, then go to the nearest local computer shop that sells HP. Have them try a known-good hard drive on your system. If it works, purchase a new hard drive. If it doesn't work, your mobo needs to be replaced.

Windows xp missing file and won't start up

Here's what I would do, because after reading around on that error message, it seems like you can't repair the problem.

I would find myself one of these: http://www.casecooler.com/3drto2dr.html

Take out your laptop's HD, hook it up to that convertor, slave it to a desktop, pull all your data that you don't want to lose to the desktop, put the laptop's HD back into the laptop, reformat/reinstall windows back onto the laptop, pull the HD back out of the laptop, hook it back up to that convertor, slave it back to the desktop, put your data back onto the laptop's HD, then put it back in the laptop.

That will leave you with a clean install that works on the laptop and you won't lose any data.
