Question about Belkin Computers & Internet
First, I am going to assume that you are running a Windows-based operating system, and my ideas are going to be specifically oriented towards Windows XP. If you use Windows 2000 or Vista, the operations I describe will be slightly different, so if you're not real familiar with those operating systems, let me know and I can send you revised instructions.
If your router is broadcasting its SSID (it's unique ID), which is an option in most routers, then your laptop should be capable of detecting it. You should have an icon on your desktop named "My Network Places". Right-click on it and select PROPERTIES. A dialog box should pop-up that shows your network connections. If your wireless connection is installed correctly, you should see i, possibly with a red "X" through it, which is OK. Right-click on it and select VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS.
Another dialog box should pop-up that will list all of the available wireless networks in your vicinity. You should be able to see your router in this list and it will likely have a name associated with the router's manufacturer (e.g. USR, Netgear, Linksys, etc.). It should also be the network that has the strongest signal since you are close to it. You should now be able to select it and then click on the CONNECT button.
Whether the connection process is completed successfully, you will see a notification of this. But before you do anything, bring up Internet Explorer and see if you can reach a website like www.cnn.com.
If the above procedures are not successful, then you will have to get into your router to obtain the correct attributes - or reset your router back to its original factory-set default parameters, which will be documented in their documentation. Unfortunately, Belkin does not reference a "1A359" router on their support site, so I don't know what actual model you have and can't give you specific instructions. Please look at the label on the bottom of your router to find the correct model #.
Hope this helps! Please re-post if it does not or if you have other questions.
