I have had the same problem, I ended up replacing the IR LED's in the front, and it fixed it - I have no idea why they stopped working, LED's are supposed to be good for at least 10,000 hours continuous use.
Strange, but since buying a replacement was $200 + and the LED's were around $4. it made sense to replace them...
Hope this helps.

My Maestro IR remote no longer works after 10 years

The infrared (IR) LED / remote may have stopped working. Since it emits IR light when used, you won't be able to actually see the light with the ***** eye. This makes it difficult, but not impossible to determine if the LED / remote is working or not. You can see if it works by pointing it a night time security camera - the type that has it's own built in IR LEDs to light up the area and does not need visible light to shine on the area (some video cameras can also "see" this light when playing back video taken of an active IR light source). Either record or have someone watch the display while pressing a button on the remote and aiming at the camera. You should be able to do this in broad daylight it will look like a flashlight shining into the camera.

If the LED in the remote is proved to be functioning, the IR receiver in the switch, or some other internal part of the switch may have failed. Since the receiver doesn't light up - there's no way to determine if this is the case without actually replacing the switch. It doesn't matter really, as there are no user replaceable parts in the switch - it either works, or it doesn't.

Ultimately, the best way to troubleshoot will be by replacing components with known good types. Use a battery that tests "good" on a tester, in a new or known to be good remote, used on a new or known to be good switch. You'd would deal with the situation by swapping only ONE component at a time. Once you change the device that allows to circuit to work, replace the new components with the old - except to last one; as this was likely the component that caused the failure.

Try taking the remote to a Home Depot, Lowe's or other similar store with a display of these switches. Do what you need to do to your remote to see if you can control any of the switches/ lights.

Good luck!

Why Am I Unable To Program The RCA Remote Control To Operate My Components

Why am I unable to program the RCA remote control to operate a component? Why am I unable to program the RCA remote control to operate a component? If you are unable to program the remote control to operate a component, review the following information:

Compatibility
If none of the programming procedures work, the universal remote control may not be compatible with your components, based on the type of infrared technology and the age of the components. Some RCA universal remote controls will only work with components manufactured after 1990.

Distance
If you are testing the remote control after you have entered a code, you may be too far away from the component or you may not have the remote control aimed directly at the component. Because the remote control uses infrared (IR) technology to communicate with components, there must be an unobstructed path between the remote control and the IR sensor on the component.

Code Entry Methods
If the Direct Code Entry method was used to enter the codes for your brand and the unit is still not functioning properly, try one of the automatic code search methods instead. During automatic code search, the remote searches for the correct code to program.

Modes
For the remote control to know which component you wish to operate, you must put the remote control in the correct mode by pressing the corresponding component button.

Combo Units
To program the remote control to operate combo units, such as TV/VCR’s, TV/DVD’s, or TV/VCR/DVD’s, use the combo codes in the Code List to program the individual corresponding component buttons. Once programmed successfully, the TV button controls the TV functions on your unit, and the DVD or VCR button controls the DVD or VCR functions, respectively. The codes in the combo section should be tried first, using the Direct Code Entry method on the TV and DVD or VCR buttons. If this is unsuccessful, use one of the Code Search methods to program your combo unit.

Batteries
Make sure the batteries are new and properly installed.

Remote doesn't control on/off,volume or channels

Remote won't workThe most common reasons the remote won't work is that the batteries are dead or it hasn't been programmed properly. It's often easy to fix. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you have a clear path between the remote and the infrared eye on your equipment. Clear any dust or debris that may be covering the eye.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Press the SAT mode button at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Check the batteries. When you press a mode button, does it light up? If not, you may be out of juice. Check to make sure they are in the right way, with the metal ends making good connections with the metal in the remote. If they're in correctly and you still don't get power, try replacing them. They may be dead.Learn about batteries

Check to make sure the remote is programmed properly, which basically means you reprogram it to work with your receiver, TV and any other components. Start with the receiver and work your way through programming each component that isn't working. We tell you how to program remotes in our guide to remotes.Learn about remotes

Still no go? You may have an internal problem with the remote. You'll have to talk to a Shaw Direct customer service representative. Call 1.888.554.7827.Be prepared to tell us:What components you have. All of the steps you've been through to try and solve the problem yourself. Can't change channels on receiverThis is almost always caused by a programming problem with the remote. Here are the steps to take to troubleshoot the problem.
Make sure you are in SAT mode. The receiver will only change channels when the remote is in the correct mode.Look for a timer. If you have a timer set, the receiver won't let you change channels. This ensures you don't miss recording a program with an external device. If a timer is set and you want to watch another channel, simply turn off the receiver and turn it back on.Learn about timers

Make sure the problem is with the remote and not the receiver. Try the buttons on the front of the receiver. Try to change channels. If your model doesn't have channel buttons, try to turn the machine off. If you can't change channels or power off, the problem is with the receiver. Try unplugging it for two minutes and plugging it in again.

If you can change the channels or power off, the problem is with the remote. Press any mode button on the remote. It should light up. If not, you probably have low batteries. They should be replaced.

Try unlocking the battery-saving mode. When a button is pressed for longer than three minutes, the remote goes into battery-saving mode. Click on any of the mode buttons at the top to unlock it. Your remote should work properly.

Check to see if your Shaw Direct Receiver is using the same remote control address as your remote control. If you are using the DSR 319, HDDSR 505, or HDPVR 530 receiver press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate to 6 - System Setup and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 4 - System Setup. Then 3 - Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Remote control Address. If you are using a legacy receiver such as the DSR 315, DSR 405, or any other receiver with front panel buttons, press the Options button on the front panel of your Shaw Direct receiver. An options menu should appear on your screen. Using the direction keys on the front of your receiver navigate OPTIONS and then press the Enter button on the front panel of the receiver. Using the same directional and Enter buttons go to 6 - Change System Settings. Then 3 - Change Installation Settings. Followed by 2 - Set Remote Control Address.Follow the on-screen instruction to reset the remote control address on your receiver and remote control.Check the back of your remote, if you own the IRC/URC 550 or RT-U50 remote controls you will need to enter the remote control address differently from what is displayed on screen. To program these remotes, hold the ENTER and MUTE button on your remote at the same time until the mode buttons at the top start to illuminate then enter the last three digits of the number displayed in "Current Address" column on the screen, then press the MUTE button to lock in the code. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0002, you would hold ENTER + MUTE until the mode button illuminated and then enter 0 0 2, followed by ENTER on your remote control. If you own the IRC 551 or URC 551 remote control you can follow the instruction depicted on the screen, but you must substitute the follows numbers in place those specified: 00869 for 0000, 01870 for 0001, 01871 for 0002, 01872 for 0003, 01873 for 0004, 01874 for 0005, 01875 for 0006, 01876 for 0008. For example: If the remote address on the screen displays 0003, you would hold the SAT button until it flashes, press 01872, then ENTER, to lock in the new code.Still no go? Remote will not function

most of the time when the remote control doesn't work we forgot to replace the battery, but if you replaced the battery already and it never get to work it could be that some parts on the remote control most of the time components that are cold soldered. It means that due to its function we sometimes slip and accidentally drop the remote causing the components inside to absorb the shock that made the solder on the control to be weak and lose its solder. So, opening and soldering or maybe cleaning the pad connections may solved the problem. Servicing this to a technician is just a waste of money just buy a Universal Remote if you can fix it yourself. Hope this helps.

My logitech 890 stopped working my components. The lights are on the remote. The help key goes through it's normal functions. The remote appears to work but components do not respond. What do I do?

I would reset the remote to the factory conditions and then reload your specific configuration onto the remote. If that doesn't work I would suggest RMA'ing the remote with logitech if possible.

My Sony remote is RM-YD024 - I am trying to find the code for a Denon DVD player, Norm.

Here are all the codes for your Denon DVD player.

30490, 30634, 31634

Just in case you don't have the manual I also included the steps to input the codes.
Hope this helps

Follow these steps to program the remote control.
NOTE: Even though the FUNCTION buttons are labeled for specific components, they can be programmed to operate any type of equipment that is compatible with this remote control. For example, the BD/DVD function can be programmed to operate a VCR, AV receiver, etc.
  1. Turn on the component to be programmed.
  2. On the remote control, press and hold the INPUT button.
  3. While holding INPUT button, press the FUNCTION button for the desired component.
  4. Release both buttons.
  5. NOTE: The FUNCTION button will blink for approximately 30 seconds or until a code is entered.
  6. Using the number pad, enter the component's manufacturer code.
  7. NOTE: If more than one code number is listed for the manufacturer, enter one code at a time until you find one that works.
  8. Press the ENT button.
  9. NOTE: The FUNCTION will blink twice if the programming is successful, if not, it will blink five times.
  10. Point the remote control at the component.
  11. Press the component POWER button to verify operation.
NOTES:
  • If a new code number is entered, the code number previously entered will be erased.
  • When the batteries are replaced, the programmed codes may be erased. It may be necessary to reprogram the remote after replacing the batteries.
  • Some product functions may not be able to be controlled by the remote control. Use the remote control provided with the component.
  • In some rare cases, you may not be able to operate your non-Sony equipment with the supplied remote control. This is because your equipment may use a code that is not provided with this remote control. In this case, use the remote control that was provided with the equipment or purchase a universal remote control that has a learning function.
  • If programming fails, it may be necessary to reset the remote control. To reset the remote control, remove the batteries and press each button on the remote control twice.

I have this RCA remote and I misplaced the guidebook.

You must first find out why the remote control is not working properly. These remote controls have been having problems with new batteries. The battery holder on the positive side need to be adjusted out to make sure its making contact with the batteries. This may be the reason the remote control is not working. After you find the problem with the functioning of the remote control you can go to the RCA customer support website http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/voxrightnow.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1769&p_created=1209688350&p_sid=6-sdxLAj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9ODE4LDgxOCZwX3Byb2RzPTE1OCZwX2NhdHM9MCZwX3B2PTEuMTU4JnBfY3Y9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1yY2Egc3lzdGVtIDUgcmVtb3RlIGNvbnRyb2w*&p_li=&p_topview=1 find the codes for the components you want to use with the remote control. Use the codes to make the remote operational . This should be all you have to, if the remote control is working properly. If you cannot get the remote control to work properly, you can call the RCA customer support at this telephone number 1-800-645-4994. Harmony 890 will no longer operate the tv, dvr,or sound

I had a similar issue and only needed to "re-configue" the remote... Basically, just try plugging it back into a USB cord ( connected to your computer) and go to the original programming home page and click the "Update button." It will re-program your remote as if it was new.. Over time your Harmony may lose or forget the frequency of your various components. This happened to me. Also, make sure the remote has a full charge while you're programming it. Give it a try !
